A hairworm, Gordius sp., vomited by a domestic cat.

open access: yesThe Japanese Journal of Veterinary Science, 1987
A hairworm was vomited by a domestic cat. The worm specimen is white with a yellowish tint and 585mm in length and 1.2mm in maximum width. Morphological examinations revealed that the specimen is almost identical to Gordius ogatai Inoue, 1979 although not closely identified because of the damage of the cuticle.

Gordius robustus larvae fed to Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) readily penetrated and subsequently encysted in the posterior portion of the midgut wall. Parasite development was then arrested in each infected beetle.
