Cembrane Diterpenes from the Gorgonian Lophogorgia peruana
Journal of Natural Products, 2006The chemical study of the gorgonian Lophogorgia peruana collected at the Gulf of California has led to the isolation of the new diterpenes lophodienone (2), lophodiol A (3), lophodiol B (4), 17-acetoxylophotoxin (5), 15,16-epoxylophotoxin (6), 17-acetoxy-15,16-epoxylophotoxin (7), and isoepoxylophodione (8), together with the known compounds lophotoxin

Diurnal Activity of Hermatypic Gorgonians
Nature, 1967THE natural food of gorgonians, or any other soft corals, inhabiting coral reefs is unknown, but net photosynthesis to respiration ratios from 2 to 5 have been reported for isolated colonies of five species of Caribbean reef gorgonians in laboratory experiments1,2.

New Cembranolides from the Gorgonian Eunicea succinea
Journal of Natural Products, 1998A new chemical study of the Caribbean gorgonian Eunicea succinea collected in Puerto Rico afforded seven new cembranolides (1-5, 7, and 8). Excepting 1, the new compounds described here possess an unusual unsaturation at either position C-1, C-6, or C-8, and all but 8 possess the C-12R, C-13S stereochemistry usually ascribed to cembranolides from E ...

New Farnesylhydroquinone Glycosides from the Gorgonian Euplexaura anastomosans
Natural Product Letters, 2001Euplexides F (3) and G (4), novel farnesylhydroquinone glycosides, have been isolated as minor constituents of the gorgonian Euplexaura anastomosans. The structures of these compounds have been determined by combined spectroscopic methods. These compounds exhibited moderate cytotoxicity and inhibitory activity against PLA2.

Bacterial Communities of the Gorgonian Octocoral Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae
Microbial Ecology, 2013Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae is a common inhabitant of Caribbean reefs and is a well-known source of diterpenes with diverse biological activities. Notably, this octocoral is the sole source of the pseudopterosin family of anti-inflammatory diterpenes and is harvested to supply commercial demand for these metabolites.

Diterpenoids from the gorgonian Solenopodium stechei
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1992Twenty-five new diterpenoids with representatives from three skeletal classes, briareins, eunicellins and cembranes, have been isolated from a Pacific gorgonian, Solenopodium stechei. The structural diversity of the diterpenoids isolated indicates significant biosynthetic versatility for this gorgonian.
