Phospholipid fatty acid composition of Gorgonia mariae and Gorgonia ventalina
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2002The phospholipid fatty acid composition of the Caribbean gorgonians Gorgonia mariae (Bayer) and Gorgonia ventalina (Linnaeus) is described for the first time. The main phospholipids identified were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, and phosphatidylserine.

Utilization of thermal analysis in gorgonia characterization
Journal of Thermal Analysis, 1984With the use of the derivatograph it is possible to find similarities and differences between Plexauras and Plexaurellas, taking into account not only the moisture and ash content, but also the weight losses associated with the different thermal effects. On this basis thermal analysis is proposed for the rapid characterization of gorgonia.

New 9,11-secosterols from gorgonia Subergorgia suberosa of the Indian Ocean
Steroids, 1998Three new 9,11-secosterols, 3 beta,6 alpha,11-trihydroxy-9,11-seco-5 alpha-cholest-7-ene-9-one (1), 24S- (2a), and 24R-methyl-3 beta,6 alpha, 11-trihydroxy-9,11-seco-5 alpha-cholest-7,22E-diene-9-one (2b), were isolated from the Indian Ocean gorgonia, Subergorgia suberosa. Their structures were established by spectroscopic data.

(+)-Lepidozene a new bicyclic sesquiterpene from the gorgonia lophogorgia ruberrima
Tetrahedron, 1990Abstract (+)-Lepidozene 1, a new sesquiterpene possessing a trans-fused (8,1,0) undecane system, has been isolated from the gorgonia Lophogorgia ruberrima. Its structure and absolute configuration have been determined by spectroscopical methods and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Fungi in the sea fan Gorgonia ventalina: diversity and sampling strategies
Coral Reefs, 2007Fungal communities from gorgonians have been poorly documented and most studies of these communities have lacked defined sampling strategies. The objectives of this study were: (1) to estimate fungal diversity in Gorgonia ventalina; (2) to compare two sampling and tissue processing strategies: tissue fragments of different sizes vs. homogenized tissue.
