Mitogenomic phylogenetic analyses of Leptogorgia virgulata and Leptogorgia hebes (Anthozoa: Octocorallia) from the Gulf of Mexico provides insight on Gorgoniidae divergence between Pacific and Atlantic lineages

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 9, Issue 24, Page 14114-14129, December 2019., 2019
This study contributes the first complete mitochondrial genomes for Leptogorgia virgulata and Leptogorgia hebes. The fossil‐calibrated divergence times based on complete mitochondrial genomes shows that the use of multiple genes, as opposed to a single gene, results in estimates of more recent speciation events than previously published for Eastern ...

Dynamics of the Pacific oyster pathobiota during mortality episodes in Europe assessed by 16S rRNA gene profiling and a new target enrichment next‐generation sequencing strategy

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 21, Issue 12, Page 4548-4562, December 2019., 2019
Summary Infectious agents such as the bacteria Vibrio aestuarianus or Ostreid herpesvirus 1 have been repeatedly associated with dramatic disease outbreaks of Crassostrea gigas beds in Europe. Beside roles played by these pathogens, microbial infections in C.

Coral microbiome database: Integration of sequences reveals high diversity and relatedness of coral‐associated microbes

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 11, Issue 3, Page 372-385, June 2019., 2019
Summary Coral‐associated microorganisms are thought to play a fundamental role in the health and ecology of corals, but understanding of specific coral–microbial interactions are lacking. In order to create a framework to examine coral–microbial specificity, we integrated and phylogenetically compared 21,100 SSU rRNA gene Sanger‐produced sequences from

Three decades of coral reef community dynamics in St. John, USVI: a contrast of scleractinians and octocorals

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2017., 2017
Abstract To better understand phase shifts on Caribbean reefs, we quantified community structure on shallow reefs over 27 yr in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, contrasted the community dynamics of scleractinians and octocorals, and evaluated the extent to which community structure was associated with rainfall, temperature, and hurricanes.
