First support for phylogenetically segregated ecotypes and delineating thresholds for inter‐ and intraspecific ranks in phytophagous Central Asian beetles (Coleoptera)

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 54, Issue 2, Page 144-162, March 2025.
Abstract As defining various taxonomic ranks, especially at and within a specific level, can often be difficult, we used an evolutionarily young group of Central Asian beetles, the genus Anoplistes, to examine the limits between species, subspecies and ecotype.

Carnivorous sundews (Drosera rotundifolia) are more carnivorous in high‐light bog microhabitats that are not also nutrient‐rich

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 2, Page 596-608, February 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Carnivorous plants adapt to variations in nutrient availability and shade by altering investment in carnivory in response to different environmental conditions. It is not clear, however, how carnivorous plants might alter investment in carnivory in relation to habitat ...

EuPPollNet: A European Database of Plant‐Pollinator Networks

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 34, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Motivation Pollinators play a crucial role in maintaining Earth's terrestrial biodiversity. However, rapid human‐induced environmental changes are compromising the long‐term persistence of plant‐pollinator interactions. Unfortunately, we lack robust, generalisable data capturing how plant‐pollinator communities are structured across space and ...

Recurrent Heatwaves Slow Down the Recovery of a Phytoplankton Community

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 12, December 2024.
Our study evaluates how repeated heatwaves affect the ecological resilience of freshwater communities. It shows that repeated heatwaves result in a critical slowing down of phytoplankton communities and underscore potential for reduced overall resilience due to repeated heatwave events.

Seasonality of zooplankton active flux in subtropical waters

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 69, Issue 11, Page 2564-2579, November 2024.
Abstract The biological carbon pump (BCP) is the mechanism by which the ocean transports organic matter below the mixed layer, exporting or sequestering it for years to millennia. Physical transport of dissolved and particulate organic carbon, the sinking of particles, and the carbon transported by diel and seasonal vertical migrants are the three main

Customized targeted massively parallel sequencing enables the identification of novel pathogenic variants in Tunisian patients with developmental and epileptic encephalopathy

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 9, Issue 5, Page 1697-1709, October 2024.
Abstract Objective To develop a high‐throughput sequencing panel for the diagnosis of developmental and epileptic encephalopathy in Tunisia and to clarify the frequency of disease‐causing genes in this region. Methods We developed a custom panel for next‐generation sequencing of the coding sequences of 116 genes in individuals with developmental and ...
