An acoustic study of plain and palatalized sibilants in Ocotepec Mixe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In Ocotepec Mixe, the stem-initial sibilants /s tÉs ß/ undergo a palatalization process when the prefix /j/ is added. Descriptions of other Mixe languages report that this palatalization is realized either as addition of a glide (in the case of the ...

The effect of early diagenetic processes on the quantification of fossil micrometeorite abundance and flux in the geological record

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Fossil micrometeorites (MMs) recovered from lithified sedimentary rocks, particularly iron‐rich (I‐type) cosmic spherules (CSs) provide valuable insights into past dust‐forming events. Their abundances, when combined with estimates of local sedimentation rates can be used to reconstruct the flux of extraterrestrial dust.

A PLETHORA3/7 transcription factor shapes cucumber shoot architecture

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary PLETHORA transcription factors (PLTs) are master regulators of plant development. Loss of shoot meristematic PLTs leads to reduced phyllotactic regularity and robustness in Arabidopsis and increased inflorescence branching in tomato. Whether these factors have similar functions in other species is not known.
