Size and soft budget constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
There is much evidence against the so-called "too big to fail" hypothesis in the case of bailouts to sub-national governments. We look at a model where districts of different size provide local public goods with positive spillovers.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

The Effectiveness of Government Size on Economic Growth in Iran (by Boundaries Testing Approach) [PDF]

open access: yesفصلنامه پژوهش‌های اقتصادی ایران, 2013
We analyse short-run and long-run effects of government size on the economic growth of Iran ,using 1353-90 time series .the results of estimation , by using of ARDL  and boundaries testing approach, indicate convergence of the dynamic model to the long ...

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

How Harmful Is a High Share of Public Expenditure in GDP?

open access: yesEconomies
We aim to analyze the potential positive or negative effects of public expenditure on economic growth, as well as their determinants. To this goal, we use a simple theoretical model, which has the specificity to distinguish between public investment and ...

Analyzing the Relationship Between Government Size and Unemployment Rate in Iran [PDF]

open access: yesFaslnāmah-i Pizhūhish/Nāmah-i Iqtisādī, 2011
This study investigates the relation between unemployment rate and Government Size in Iran. For that, we have used some VAR models, which include the following variables: government size, measured as total government outlays as a percentage of GDP ...
