GFZ daily GRACE/GRACE-FO Kalman filter solutions
The satellite missions GRACE (Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment) and GRACE-Follow-on (GRACE-FO) measure gravity field variations with homogeneous global coverage. Standard GRACE/GRACE-FO solutions are usually provided by different analysis centers as monthly mean gravity fields.Natalia Panafidina +6 more

Spatio-temporal Wiener filtering of GRACE/-FO solutions
Monthly estimates of the Earth’s gravity field based on the GRACE/-FO missions have enabled decisive progress in the quantification and understanding of mass transfers in the Earth system. However, raw level 2 GRACE/-FO solutions are affected by large errors in the form of North-South stripes.Paul Rebischung +4 more

GRACE-FO: science results, mission status and outlook
Since 2018, the GRACE Follow-On satellite mission, a partnership between NASA (US) and GFZ (Germany), is continuing the unique essential climate data record of mass change across the Earth system initiated in 2002 by the GRACE mission (2002-2017).Felix Landerer +8 more

GRACE/GRACE-FO RL07 Mascon solutions from CSR
The GRACE-FO mission, which will conclude its seven-year orbital mission in May 2025, has significantly advanced the scientific legacy of the original GRACE mission, launched in 2002. By delivering continuous, highly accurate gravity field measurements, GRACE-FO has expanded our knowledge of key Earth system processes, supporting essential research in ...Himanshu Save +3 more

Variations in Earth’s rotation, encompassing polar motion (PM) and the length-of-day (LOD) changes, result from a variety of factors influencing mass distribution and movement. These factors include the redistribution of air and water masses within the climate system and the solid Earth, and exchanges of angular momentum between the core and ...

GRACE and GRACE-FO constraints on 3D GIA models
Glacial isostatic adjustment is the response of the solid Earth to past ice sheets. It is the largest secular gravity increase in GRACE and GRACE-FO data. Models of GIA are used to correct GRACE observations for ice mass and sea level change, but in areas where GIA is the main signal GRACE data can be used to constrain GIA models.Wouter van der Wal +4 more

GRACE and GRACE-FO Mascons for Studying Ocean Dynamics
We have developed a specialized set of CSR mascons for ocean dynamics studies.  The standard GRACE/GRACE-FO mascons over the ocean represent ocean bottom pressure.  Thus, they have contributions from the average atmospheric pressure change over the ocean, the barystatic (global mean) mass change and the geographically variable ...Mark E.
