Research on singlemode fiber and graded index multimode fiber simulating collimator
2012 2nd International Conference on Consumer Electronics, Communications and Networks (CECNet), 2012An all-fiber device using single mode fiber with graded-index multimode fiber to fabricate a collimator is investigated. This device has advantages of small size, low splicing loss and ease of fabrication, and it could substitute bulky GRIN lens. Experiments show that it has the best collimating effect when the length of graded-index fiber is between ...

Expanded single-mode fiber using graded index multimode fiber
Optical Engineering, 2004A compact large Gaussian mode field diameter single-mode fiber is developed. This expanded single-mode fiber consists of splicing fibers with various lengths and characteristics. The principle of this optical arrangement is to excite the first mode of propagation of the multimode graded index to preserve a Gaussian field.

Calculation of dispersion in graded-index multimode fibers by a propagating-beam method
Applied Optics, 1979Methods are developed for extracting from a numerical propagating-beam solution of a scalar wave equation the information necessary to compute the impulse-response function and the pulse dispersion for a multimode graded-index fiber. It is shown that the scalar Helmholtz equation and the parabolic wave equation have the same set of eigenfunctions in ...

Pulse separating in transmission characteristics of multimode graded index optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1976The transmission characteristics of multimode graded index optical fibers, whose refractive index profiles were nearly parabolas, were measured. No change of the output pulse waveform could be detected at a 1-km length with a lowest-order mode excitation. In the case of mismatching excitation, output pulse waveforms separated into two pulse peaks. This

WKB analysis of graded-index multimode fibers with a central-index dip
Applied Optics, 1983We have extended the Gloge-Marcatili analysis to include the effect of a refractive-index dip in a multimode fiber characterized a square-law profile. The analysis gives analytical expressions for the propagation characteristics and shows that the dip has a very significant effect on the impulse response.

Design of multimode graded-index fiber parameters in the long-wavelength region
Applied Optics, 1984Structural design of multimode graded-index fibers in the long-wavelength region around 1.3 μm is described. Suitable fiber parameters for operating with a laser source for determined: outer diamter 125 μm, core diameter 50 μm, and refractive-index difference 0.015 (relative-index difference ~1%), for transmission systems around 100 Mb/sec.

Launch dependent loss in short lengths of graded-index multimode fibers
Applied Optics, 1978In this paper we describe the effect of different launching conditions on the loss measured with a calorimeter in short (~1-m) lengths of multimode optical fiber. A qualitative description of the relation between the energy distribution in the fiber and various excitation variables is given, and many examples are presented that illustrate the effect ...
