Analysis of the Brillouin gain spectrum in a graded-index multimode fiber

2014 Third Mediterranean Photonics Conference, 2014
We present a numerical method for computing the Brillouin gain spectrum (BGS) in a graded-index multimode fiber (GI-MMF). The BGS is shown to strongly depend on the pump and probe modal content. In particular, the peak frequency of the BGS, usually referred as Brillouin Frequency Shift (BFS), as well the BGS bandwidth, vary dramatically with the order ...

Intermodal modulational instability in graded-index multimode optical fibers

Optics Letters, 2017
We report on the experimental observation of an intermodal noise-seeded modulational instability process (MI) taking place in the normal dispersion regime of a few-mode graded-index optical fiber. Strong power dependence of the MI spectra is observed, with a peak gain modulation frequency that scales as the square root of the injected light power ...

Multimode Fiber Interferometer Based on Graded-Index Polymer CYTOP Fiber

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2020
In this article, we present an investigation of a multimode fiber interferometer based on a multimode gradient index perfluorinated polymer fiber. The interferometric response of the polymer fiber was investigated for fiber lengths of 20, 80, and 400 m when fibers were subjected to different perturbation types, such as temperature and strain.

Optimization of multimode graded-index fiber parameters: design considerations

Applied Optics, 1980
The structural design of multimode graded-index fibers is described. Minimum optical loss and wide bandwidth of a repeater section are looked upon as design goals. The outer diameter is chosen as small as possible from an economic point of view while maintaining high quality in the transmission characteristics.

Mode conversion at splices in multimode graded-index fibers

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1980
Mode conversions occurring at a splice in multimode graded-index fibers are investigated theoretically, and their effects on impulse responses are verified experimentally. The relation describing the mode behavior at a splice in existence of a geometrical offset and fiber parameter mismatches is derived by taking a skew ray as well as meridional ray ...

Principal modes in 50μm graded-index multimode fiber

Advanced Photonics 2016 (IPR, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2016
We investigate the effect of fiber imperfections on the properties of principal modes and find that although imperfections increase the maximum differential group-delay, they lead to less second-order mode dispersion for the principal modes.

Reflectance Imaging by Graded-Index Short Multimode Fiber

Applied Physics Express, 2013
The imaging condition and magnifications were measured using a graded-index multimode fiber for optical communication with a diameter of 140 µm and a length of 5 mm. The field of view was about 80 µm and the test pattern of 4.38 µm period was recognized.

Thermal microbending in graded-index multimode optical fibers

Optical Society of America Annual Meeting, 1991
Thermal microbending is calculated through a loss coefficient which is a function of both fiber parameters and operating conditions. We have shown earlier1 how to control the value of this coefficient for single-mode optical fibers. The object of this paper is to generalize the previous work for multimode fibers.

Fiber comb filters based on UV-writing Bragg gratings in graded-index multimode fibers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2005
We report a new kind of comb filters based on fiber Bragg gratings in graded-index multimode fibers. It produces two groups of spectra with a total of 36 reflection peaks that correspond to 18 principal modes and cross coupled modes. The mode indices and

Fibers. Selective Excitation of Annular Zones in a Graded Index Multimode Fiber

Journal of Optical Communications, 1984
Summary A simple and reliable method to excite selectively different annular zones of a multimode graded index fiber has been implemented. This technique, exploring concentric layers of the fiber core with different chemical compositions, can find application in differential measurements of material properties.
