On gradients and texture "gradients."
Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 1984Texture gradients, systematic variations in image texture due to perspective projection of surface texture, provide information about the shape and disposition of surfaces relative to a viewer. Although this three-dimensional information is usually described in terms of mathematical relationships involving gradients of image properties (Cutting ...

We propose a method that uses bootstraping to classify the pixles in the two halves of a sliding window, assuming that if there is a real image boundary separating the two halves, the pixels in the two halves will be classified in two separate classes. The accuracy of the classification is used as a local "gradient".

Using a properly timed sequence of early gradient pressure greatly facilitates the burn patient's rehabilitation in our program. Hypersensitivity is avoided or alleviated, skin breakdown is minimized, and early hypertrophic scar development and contracture is controlled.

Sparse signal approximations have become a fundamental tool in signal processing with wide-ranging applications from source separation to signal acquisition. The ever-growing number of possible applications and, in particular, the ever-increasing problem sizes now addressed lead to new challenges in terms of computational strategies and the development
