Origin of the anomalous heat current in collisional granular fluids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
We present a heuristic explanation for the anomalous (density-gradient-dependent) heat current in collisional granular fluids. Inelastic grain collisions lead to highly non-equilibrium states which are characterized by large spatial gradients and/or temporal variations in the granular temperature.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Lung Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) dose gradient and PTV volume: a retrospective multi-center analysis

open access: yesRadiation Oncology, 2019
Background The treatment of lung lesions with stereotactic body radiation therapy calls for highly conformal dose, which is evaluated by a number of metrics. Lung stereotactic body radiation therapy clinical trials constrain a plans gradient index.

Obesity alters the fitness of peritumoral adipose tissue, exacerbating tumor invasiveness in renal cancer through the induction of ADAM12 and CYP1B1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Gradient plasticity used for modeling extrinsic and intrinsic size effects in the torsion of Au microwires

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2016
The gradient plasticity theory proposed by Aifantis and coworkers has been successfully used to model size effect phenomena at the microscale and nanoscale, by introducing into the formulation an internal length scale associated with the phenomenological

On the Li-Yau type gradient estimate of Li and Xu [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
In this paper, we obtain a Li-Yau type gradient estimate with time dependent parameter for positive solutions of the heat equation, so that the Li-Yau type gradient estimate of Li-Xu are special cases of the estimate. We also obtain improvements of Davies' Li-Yau type gradient estimate. The argument is different with those of Li-Xu and Qian.

Targeted metabolomics reveals novel diagnostic biomarkers for colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed targeted metabolomic profiling to identify 302 distinct metabolites present in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP), revealing aberrant metabolic profiles amongst individuals diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC). Compared to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen 19‐9 (CA199), our metabolite panel showed improved sensitivity ...

Sharp heat kernel estimates for spectral fractional Laplacian perturbed by gradient [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
By using Duhamel's formula, we prove sharp two-sided estimates for the heat kernel of spectral fractional Laplacian with time-dependent gradient perturbation in bounded $C^{1,1}$ domains. Moreover, we also obtain gradient estimate as well as H\"older continuity of the gradient of the heat kernel.

Latitudinal gradients of cosmic rays and the polarity reversal of the heliospheric magnetic field: A preliminary evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes
Within the statistical limits imposed by the currently available data and the noise inherent in the determination of the latitudinal gradient, no evidence for the expected change in the latitudinal gradient from pre-1980 to post-1980 epochs can be found.

Calcium Gradient Dependent Pyrophosphate Formation by Sarcoplasmic Vesicles

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1977
Abstract Pyrophosphate Synthesis, Sarcoplasmic Reticulum, Calcium Accumulation The vesicles of the sarcoplasmic membranes synthesize pyrophosphate from inorganic phosphate. Pyrophosphate synthesis proceeds as long as a calcium gradient is maintained across the vesicular membranes.
