Stress-gradient plasticity. [PDF]
A new model, stress-gradient plasticity, is presented that provides unique mechanistic insight into size-dependent phenomena in plasticity. This dislocation-based model predicts strengthening of materials when a gradient in stress acts over dislocation source–obstacle configurations.

HOMOGENIZATION IN GRADIENT PLASTICITY
This paper yields a two-scale homogenization result for a rate-independent elasto-plastic system. The presented model is a generalization of the classical model of linearized elasto-plasticity with hardening, which is extended by a gradient term of the plastic variables.

Gradient plasticity in gradient nano-grained metals [PDF]
Gradient nano-grained (GNG) metals are a unique class of materials with spatial gradients in grain size, typically from the surface to the bulk. Here the gradient mechanical behavior in GNG copper is studied by a crystal plasticity finite element model that accounts for grain-size-dependent yield strengths.

Fracture in distortion gradient plasticity [PDF]
In this work, distortion gradient plasticity is used to gain insight into material deformation ahead of a crack tip. This also constitutes the first fracture mechanics analysis of gradient plasticity theories adopting Nye's tensor as primal kinematic variable. First, the asymptotic nature of crack tip fields is analytically investigated.

Functional gradient reorganization and transcriptomic signatures underlying 1 Hz rTMS treatment in first-episode schizophrenia following right orbitofrontal cortex stimulation [PDF]
Background: The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) represents a promising yet underexplored neuromodulation target for negative symptoms in schizophrenia, and the macroscale and microscale mechanisms underlying its therapeutic effects remain unclear. Methods: In

Contact of Rough Surfaces: An Incremental Model Accounting for Strain Gradient Plasticity
In the contact of rough surfaces, most contact patches are at the scale of micrometers, and thus, their contact deformation can be dominated by the size-dependent plasticity. In this paper, we propose a new strategy to analyze the role of strain gradient

Scalar-based strain gradient plasticity theory to model size-dependent kinematic hardening effects [PDF]
A common belief in phenomenological strain gradient plasticity modeling is that including the gradient of scalar variables in the constitutive setting leads to size-dependent isotropic hardening, whereas the gradient of second-order tensors induces size ...

Simulation of Lueders bands using regularized large strain elasto-plasticity
This paper deals with the numerical simulation of an instability phenomenon called Lueders bands with two regularized material models: viscoplasticity and gradient-enhanced plasticity.

An alternative way to describe thermodynamically-consistent higher-order dissipation within strain gradient plasticity [PDF]
In the context of strain gradient plasticity (SGP), description of higher-order dissipation is the subject of extensive on-going discussions. In most existing SGP theories including thermodynamically-consistent higher-order dissipation, higher-order ...
