Gradient solute cluster evolution and strengthening in a cyclic torsion-baked dilute Mg alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Solute clustering provides a promising route to overcome the strength-ductility trade-off, yet controlled formation of such clusters remains challenging in Mg alloys.

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Compositionally gradient Al2O3–B4C/Al composites with interpenetrating structure and tailored properties via material extrusion-based additive manufacturing and pressure infiltration

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
Traditional fabrication methods for metal–ceramic composites often struggle to achieve the level of control needed for material on-demand design and property optimisation, despite the potential for enhanced performance.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Wire-powder-arc additive manufacturing of alternating graded TiC and B4C particles reinforced aluminum matrix composite structures

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
Functionally graded materials (FGMs) have attracted significant interest due to their ability to tailor properties throughout the volume. However, achieving cross-scale structural regulation of FGMs, from macro to micro, is difficult using traditional ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Structures and Strength of Gradient Nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A recent study [1] has shown that a microstructure can be refined to a record low of 5 nm and that dislocation glide is still a controlling mechanism at this length scale. The nanostructure was produced in Cu by applying a very high strain in friction. The stress and strain decrease with increasing distance from the surface forming a gradient structure.
