Carbon Quantum Dot Optical Properties for potential infiltration into Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fibers

open access: yesParticle &Particle Systems Characterization, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
First characterization of carbon quantum dots (CQD) optical properties, synthesized using an electrochemical method. Their size distribution is of 5±3 nm, with spherical morphology, and a wide absorption spectrum. The CQD show increased absorption at both high and low frequency. The CQD rotate the polarization state of light at 1550 nm. Abstract Carbon

A linear profit function for economic weights of linear phenotypic selection indices in plant breeding

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 63, Issue 2, Page 635-647, March/April 2023., 2023
Abstract The profit function (net returns minus costs) allows breeders to derive trait economic weights to predict the net genetic merit (H) using the linear phenotypic selection index (LPSI). Economic weight is the increase in profit achieved by improving a particular trait by one unit and should reflect the market situation and not only preferences ...

The latitudinal gradient of functional diversity of Miocene marine mollusks from Chile

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2023, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Understanding latitudinal variations in biodiversity is central for biogeography. Along the coasts of the Southeast Pacific, several taxa show inverse latitudinal patterns of biodiversity, i.e. increasing species numbers from lower to higher latitudes. A plausible explanation for these patterns is that fjords, formed during the Pleistocene glaciations,

Defensa comunitaria y culturas del terror: Crimen organizado y violencia de Estado en comunidades originarias de Guerrero, México

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 564-574, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Rich in raw materials, the state of Guerrero, Mexico, is one of the main enclaves of opium production, mineral extraction, and a focus for the multiplication of armed actors in Latin America, which, together with the overlapping of counterinsurgent violence in the past, post‐colonial violence and the militarization of the policies of the so ...

Population genomic analyses reveal hybridization and marked differences in genetic structure of Scurria limpet sister species with parapatric distributions across the South Eastern Pacific

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 5, May 2022., 2022
Here, we report a novel comparative population genetics study of two parapatric sister marine limpets endemic to the South Eastern Pacific and whose poleward and equatorward range edges intersect in the 30–35°S SEP biogeographic transition zone. We used RADseq to survey thousands of SNPs along with the distribution of both species, including one ...

Knee Osteoarthritis: Kinesiophobia and Isometric Strength of Quadriceps in Women

open access: yesPain Research and Management, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Introduction. Osteoarthritis is a disease characterized by progressive wear and tear of the joint, with the knee being the most affected region. These patients have reduced mobility and mobility, among other symptoms. Thus, it is necessary to know the variables that influence the ability to walk. Objective. To analyze how much the gait capacity, in the

Application of a Poisson deep neural network model for the prediction of count data in genome‐based prediction

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 14, Issue 3, November 2021., 2021
Abstract Genomic selection (GS) is revolutionizing conventional ways of developing new plants and animals. However, because it is a predictive methodology, GS strongly depends on statistical and machine learning to perform these predictions. For continuous outcomes, more models are available for GS. Unfortunately, for count data outcomes, there are few
