Gradual extinction reduces reinstatement [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2015
The current study investigated whether gradually reducing the frequency of aversive stimuli during extinction can prevent the return of fear. Thirty-one participants of a three-stage procedure (acquisition, extinction and a reinstatement test on day 2) were randomly assigned to a standard extinction (SE) and gradual extinction (GE) procedure.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Resenha: Gradience, gradualness and grammaticalization: How do they interact?

open access: yesRevista Linguística, 2015
“Gradience, gradualness and grammaticalization: How do they interact?”, de Traugott e Trousdale (2010), como o título evidencia, trata da interação entre as noções de gradiência, guadualidade e gramaticalização. Com o propósito de responder três questões

Gradual Ownership Types [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Gradual Ownership Types are a framework allowing programs to be partially annotated with ownership types, while providing the same encapsulation guarantees. The formalism provides a static guarantee of the desired encapsulation property for fully annotated programs, and dynamic guarantees for partially annotated programs via dynamic checks inserted by ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Methodological approach to the noun gender and number categories in textbook for the second grade of elementary school [PDF]

open access: yesМетодичка пракса
Given that the gender and number of nouns are adopted for the first time in the second grade of elementary school in Republic of Serbia. The subject of this research is the way of processing these grammatical categories at the age when the concepts of ...

Graduality in Argumentation

open access: yesJournal of Artificial Intelligence Research, 2005
Argumentation is based on the exchange and valuation of interacting arguments, followed by the selection of the most acceptable of them (for example, in order to take a decision, to make a choice). Starting from the framework proposed by Dung in 1995, our purpose is to introduce 'graduality' in the selection of the best arguments, i.e., to be able to ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These
