Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Transplant arteriosclerosis : an experimental study on risk factors and pathogenetic mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
In this thesis, we focused on vascular damage inflicted after transplantation, i.e. injury of the graft vasculature as a result of an alloreactive response of the host against the graft, and everal factors in-fluencing this process.

Surgical treatment of carotid artery stent infection: a case report

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2021
The most effective treatment for graft infection is still debated, and the success rate of current treatments is low. We herein report the results of surgical treatment and follow-up of a case of infection acquired during carotid stenting with the aim of

Fusarium incarnatum/equiseti hemodialysis graft infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Hemodialysis graft infections typically occur as a result of contamination by skin flora at the time of insertion or become secondarily infected after high-grade bacteremia. Infection of implanted vascular devices with filamentous fungi is rare.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Aortobisiliac graft thrombosis in bacillus Calmette-Guérin disseminated infection with graft involvement

open access: yesJournal of Vascular Surgery Cases and Innovative Techniques
Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), a live attenuated form of Mycobacterium bovis, is part of the therapy for non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Cases of vascular graft infection in the context of BCG dissemination are rarely reported in the literature.

An unusual case of fistula formation and thrombosis between arteriovenous graft and a native vein

open access: yesKidney Research and Clinical Practice, 2016
Arteriovenous graft for hemodialysis vascular access is a widely used technique with many advantages. However, it has crucial complications with graft thrombosis and infection.

Radiological Imaging of Vascular Graft Infection

open access: yes, 2013
This chapter reviews the imaging work-up for prosthetic vascular graft infection with conventional plain films, ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Plain films are not generally used today. However, plain films

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

New perspectives for preventing hepatitis C virus liver graft infection. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a leading cause of end-stage liver disease that necessitates liver transplantation. The incidence of virus-induced cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma continues to increase, making liver transplantation ...
