Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Interactive Effects of Grafting Techniques and Scion-Rootstocks Combinations on Vegetative Growth, Yield and Quality of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.)

open access: yesAgronomy, 2019
The density of herbaceous crops creates a suitable environment to produce pathogens in the soil that intensify the attack of pathogens traditionally controlled by disinfectant, which are mostly prohibited and unlisted because of their toxicity.

Formation of Stable Amorphous Calcium Phosphate and Collagen Assemblies by a Versatile Spray‐Drying Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) microparticles with long‐term and thermal stability are prepared with or without collagen using a scalable one‐pot spray‐drying process. Under simulated physiological conditions, they crystallize into biomimetic bone mineral and, when combined with collagen, form extrudable, fibrillar bone‐like 3D constructs.

Ultraviolet-induced Surface Grafting of Octafluoropentyl Methacrylate on Polyether Ether Ketone for Inducing Antibiofilm Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Since octafluoropentyl methacrylate is an antifouling polymer, surface modification of polyether ether ketone with octafluoropentyl methacrylate is a practical approach to obtaining anti-biofilm biocompatible devices.

Raman Microscopy at the Organic–Inorganic Interfaces in Human Calcified Aortic Valves Shows the Co‐Existence of Whitlockite Crystals and Carbonated Hydroxyapatite‐Mineralized Collagen Fibrils

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances our understanding of aortic valve stenosis by capturing spatially resolved chemical and structural changes at the nanoscale. The findings highlight the potential of combined Raman and electron microscopy for understanding calcification mechanisms across diverse tissue types.

Method of autovenous graft preparation

open access: yesKazan medical journal, 1988
The method of autovenous bypass grafting is widespread and is considered as one of the optimal options for surgical rehabilitation of regional circulation in occlusive lesions of the lower limb arteries. The use of augmentation to restore the transport function of the main arteries yields satisfactory immediate and long-term results. Thus, according to

Skin Graft Fixation and Methods

open access: yes, 2022
Skin graft fixation constitutes the most important element for the success of the reconstruction. The stability of the skin graft over the wound is a determinant factor for its survival. Many techniques have been described in the literature for fixing the skin graft. The most frequent of the techniques is the tie over technique.

SI‐bioATRP in Mesoporous Silica for Size‐Exclusion Driven Local Polymer Placement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An enzyme‐catalyzed surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI‐bioATRP) of an anionic monomer within mesoporous silica particles, using hemoglobin as a catalyst, allows for controlling the location of the formed polymer via size‐exclusion effects between the nanopores and the biomacromolecules, thereby opening routes to functional ...

THE EFFECTS OF GRAFTING METHODS (BY HAND AND WITH MANUAL GRAFTING UNIT) AND GRAFTING TIMES ON PERSIMMON (Diospyros kaki L.) PROPAGATION

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus, 2015
This research was conducted to determine the effects of three different grafting periods (March 1, April 1 and May 1) and six grafting methods (tongue, splice, cleft grafting by hand and cleft, wedge, omega grafting by three different manual grafting ...

Comparison of Grafting and Budding Propagation Techniques for Cultivars of the North American Pawpaw

open access: yesHortTechnology
Pawpaw (Asimina triloba) is a fruit-bearing tree native to North America, and nurseries have a strong public demand for grafted trees. Most nurseries currently propagate pawpaw cultivars clonally through chip budding and whip-and-tongue grafting, both ...
