Grain Flow for Rough Surfaces Considering Grain/Grain Collision Elasticity

Journal of Tribology, 2005
Previous work by this group on an average lubrication equation for grain flow with roughness effects is extended to include grain-grain collision elasticity ranging from perfectly elastic to perfectly inelastic. The average lubrication equation is based on Haff’s grain flow theory, with flow factors from Patir and Cheng and Tripp’s use of perturbation.

The Elimination of Grains and Grain Boundaries in Grain Growth

Interface Science, 1997
The topological changes that occur during coarsening of 2D and 3Dcellular structures, such as polycrystals, areinvestigated. Particular attention is given to the elimination ofgrain boundaries and grains with more than the minimum number oftopological elements.

Whole grains, refined grains and fortified refined grains: What’s the difference?

Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2000
Dietary guidance universally supports the importance of grains in the diet. The United States Department of Agriculture pyramid suggests that Americans consume from six to 11 servings of grains per day, with three of these servings being whole grain products. Whole grain contains the bran, germ and endosperm, while refined grain includes only endosperm.

Presolar Grains

2017
Presolar grains are nanometer- to micrometer-sized dust grains that are found in small quantities in primitive meteorites , interplanetary dust particles (IDPs), and in cometary matter. They are older than our Solar System and formed in the winds of evolved stars and in the ejecta of stellar explosions, as evidenced by large isotopic abundance ...

Grain Structure and Grain Storage

1958
Excerpts from the report Introduction: An understanding of the nature of cereal grains and their behavior during storage is a necessary basis for their proper handling on the farm or after they have left the farm. The 5 to 30 percent damage that occurs annually in stored grains not only results in a huge waste of food and feed but is a financial hazard

Cereals | Grain Defects

2004
Any form of defect detracts from the value of grain of any species. Correct sampling procedures are critical before proceeding to detect defects, thus ensuring that observations are representative. Some defects are evident by visual examination, such as broken grains and weed seeds. Others require instrumentation, such as excessive moisture content and

Grains, grain boundaries and interfaces

2004
The topic of grains and grain houndaries is extremely vast and covers many different concepts, involving not only the associated microstructural features, hut also the effects on material characteristics such as corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
