Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Experimental characterization and atomistic simulation of grain boundary segregation in Mg-Y alloys

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
As a rare earth solute element in Mg alloys, Y has the beneficial effects of increasing both the strength and the ductility as well as weakening the crystallographic texture.

Role of segregation behavior of Cu and Sb in the region of inclusions on initial corrosion

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation, 2023
The distribution characteristics of corrosion-resistant elements in low-alloy steel affected the initial corrosion behavior of the matrix. In this article, the segregation behaviors of elements at grain boundaries and pearlite defects in low-alloy steel ...

Realization of structural evolution in grain boundary, solute redistribution and improved mechanical properties by adding TiCnps in wire and arc additive manufacturing 2219 aluminium alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2021
Non-equilibrium solidification and experienced thermal conditions of deposited 2219 aluminium alloy during wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) result in the grain boundary segregation, which makes it difficult to avoid the appearance of columnar ...

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Computed entropy spectra for grain boundary segregation in polycrystals

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
Grain boundary solute segregation influences most bulk material properties, and understanding solute thermodynamics at grain boundaries is critical for engineering them.

Improvement of strength and ductility synergy and the elimination of the yield point phenomenon of ultrafine-grained Mg–Al–Zn–Ag alloy sheet

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Strength and ductility synergy in ultrafine-grained AZQ310 alloy sheet was successfully improved at the expense of grain boundary segregation via multi-pass rolling.

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Effects of B and Ce Grain Boundary Segregation on Precipitates in Super Austenitic Stainless Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2023
In order to reduce the segregation of Cr and Mo and inhibit the precipitates, we added a small amount of B and Ce to traditional S31254 steel. Using an air-cooling and low-temperature diffusion treatment, the purpose was to control B and Ce at the grain ...

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...
