Comparative Study of Prior Particle Boundaries and Their Influence on Grain Growth during Solution Treatment in a Novel Nickel-Based Powder Metallurgy Superalloy with/without Hot Extrusion

open access: yesMetals, 2022
The prior particle boundaries (PPBs), as one of the typical defects in the nickel-based powder metallurgy superalloy, largely affect the microstructure and thus properties/performance of alloys. However, the effect of PPBs on the microstructure evolution

Effect of Peak Temperatures on Microstructure and Properties of Welding Coarse Grain Heat-Affected Zone of SA508 Gr.4N Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2022
The effect of peak temperatures on the grain growth, microstructure transformation and Vickers hardness of the weld coarse grain heat-affected zone (CGHAZ) of SA508 Gr.4N steel for nuclear reactor pressure vessel was studied.

The Effect of Sintering Additive on Grain Growth in UO2 Nuclear Fuel Pellet [PDF]

open access: yesمجله علوم و فنون هسته‌ای, 2018
In this work, a powder with specific chemical and physical characteristics was used and the effect of different additives on grain growth and densification of UO2 pellets were studied.

Grains, Growth, and Grooving

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2003
We report the in situ investigation of grain growth and grain boundary migration, performed with a variable-temperature scanning tunneling microscope (STM) on a polycrystalline gold film. Atomic step resolution allowed us to identify the individual grains and, thus, also the grain boundaries.

Grain growth and grain translation in crystals [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2016
Grain growth is generally driven to minimize the overall grain boundary energy. However, for low-angle grain boundaries the requirement that lattice planes be continuous across the boundary gives rise to a coupling between the normal motion of the grain boundary and the tangential motion of the lattice.

A kinetic model for grain growth

open access: yesKinetic & Related Models, 2008
We provide a well-posedness analysis of a kinetic model for grain growth introduced by Fradkov which is based on the von Neumann-Mullins law. The model consists of an infinite number of transport equations with a tri-diagonal coupling modelling topological changes in the grain configuration.

On the Grain Growth Kinetics of a Low Density Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The grain growth kinetics of an age-hardenable Fe-Mn-Al-C steel were investigated. Kinetics of grain growth were determined between 1173 and 1348 K (900−1075 °C) to obtain a range of grain sizes from 30 to 475 μm.

Growth rate effects in soft CoFe films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We report on growth rate effects in sputter-deposited CoFe films prepared using high target utilization sputtering technology (HiTUS). We find that the grain structure of these polycrystalline films is closely related to the growth rate.

Dynamically Recrystallized Microstructures, Textures, and Tensile Properties of a Hot Worked High-Mn Steel

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The deformation microstructures and mechanical properties were studied in a high-Mn steel subjected to hot compression. The deformation microstructures resulted from the development of dynamic recrystallization (DRX).

Reconciling grain growth and shear-coupled grain boundary migration

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Conventional grain growth models assume the velocity of a grain boundary is proportional to its curvature but cannot account for the many deviations observed experimentally.
