Influence of Austenitisation Time and Temperature on Grain Size and Martensite Start of 51CrV4 Spring Steel

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
51CrV4 spring steel is a martensitic steel grade that is heat treated by quenching and tempering. Therefore, austenitisation is an important step that influences steel properties.

Synthesis and textural properties of unsupported and supported rutile (TiO2) membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Two approaches were postulated for improving the stability of porous texture of titania membranes: (1) retarding the phase transformation and grain growth; (2) avoiding the phase transformation.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Li-diffusion accelerates grain growth in intercalation electrodes: a phase-field study

open access: yes, 2018
Grain boundary migration is driven by the boundary's curvature and external loads such as temperature and stress. In intercalation electrodes an additional driving force results from Li-diffusion. That is, Li-intercalation induces volume expansion of the

Parsing abnormal grain growth [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2016
Abstract Abnormal grain growth, the enlargement of a minority of grains in a polycrystal at the expense of the surrounding grains, occurs in both metallic and ceramic materials and can have a profound impact on their mechanical and electrical properties.

Influence of Carbon Diffusion and the Presence of Oxygen on the Microstructure of Molybdenum Powders Densified by SPS

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Due to molybdenum’s Body-Centered Cubic (BCC) crystalline structure, its ductile–brittle transition temperature is sensitive to shaping, purity and microstructure. Dense molybdenum parts are usually shaped by the powder metallurgy process.

Gradient Recrystallization Behavior of a Moderate Warm-Rolled Non-Oriented Fe-6.5wt%Si Alloy

open access: yesMetals, 2023
In Fe-Si alloy systems, the Fe-6.5wt%Si alloy shows low iron core losses and near-zero magnetostriction, thus having great potential for high-frequency applications.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...
