An investigation of grain rotation and grain elongation in a superplastic alloy
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1994Abstract Measurements were taken to determine the extent of grain rotation and grain elongation in the Pb-62%Sn eutectic alloy tested to a maximum elongation of 800% at a temperature of 423 K and at a strain rate near the center of the superplastic region II.

Viscous grain-boundary sliding with rotating particles or grains
Acta Materialia, 2009We evaluate the sliding rate and stress distribution on the boundary when the sliding of grain boundary containing particles is accommodated by grain-boundary diffusion, by taking the particle rotation and the intrinsic boundary viscosity into account. The particle rotation enhances the sliding rate, and can occur in the reverse direction with respect ...

Rotated sandpiles: The role of grain reorganization and inertia
Physical Review E, 1996We present a coupled-map lattice model of a sandpile which relaxes via the dual mechanisms of surface flow and bulk reorganization. We focus on the situation where reorganization dominates flow and examine the response of our model to rotation; the event size distribution is analyzed as a function of the model parameters.

The cosserat continuum, a model for grain rotations in metals?
International Journal of Plasticity, 1989Torsional experiments with aluminium cylinders and tubes were carried out, and the grain rotations were measured by means of the v. Laue-method. Their local average agrees in a satisfactory manner with the predictions made from the point of view of a rigid/plastic Cosserat theory.

Viscous grain-boundary sliding and grain rotation accommodated by grain-boundary diffusion
Acta Materialia, 2005When the sliding of a viscous grain boundary is accommodated by grain-boundary diffusion, we evaluate the sliding rate and the stress distribution on the boundary, by employing the energy-balance method developed by Mori et al. [Mori T, Nakasone Y, Taya M, Wakashima K. Phil Mag Lett 1997;75:359 and Mori T, Koda M, Monzen R, Mura T.

Nickel Carbide as a Source of Grain Rotation in Epitaxial Graphene
ACS Nano, 2012Graphene has a close lattice match to the Ni(111) surface, resulting in a preference for 1 × 1 configurations. We have investigated graphene grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on the nickel carbide (Ni(2)C) reconstruction of Ni(111) with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM).

Recent advances in DEM simulations of grains in a rotating drum
Soft Matter, 2008The discrete elements method (DEM) has been widely used in the past decade to study a wide variety of granular systems. The use of numerical simulations constitutes an interesting alternative to the experiment as they can shed new light on a phenomenon as they can overcome experimental obstacles. A lot of granular phenomena can be studied in 2D or with
