Crop yield and water use efficiency in response to long-term diversified crop rotations

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Crop production and water productivity may be impacted by diverse crop rotation and management practices. A field study was conducted from 2017-2020 in the Loess Plateau to evaluate the effects of crop rotation sequences on pre-planting and post-harvest ...

Cooperative toughening mechanism of nanocrystalline materials by grain rotation and shear-coupled migration of grain boundaries

open access: yes, 2014
A theoretical model is proposed to illustrate the cooperative effect of nano-grain rotation and shear-coupled migration of grain boundaries on toughening of nanocrystalline materials.

Study on Grain Boundary Mechanical Behaviors of Polycrystalline γ-TiAl Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesMetals
In this study, the molecular dynamics (MD) method was used to study the tensile deformation of polycrystalline γ-TiAl with complex and random grain orientations.

A synergetic grain growth mechanism uniting nanograin rotation and grain boundary migration in nanocrystalline materials

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
A theoretical model has been developed to analyze the energetic characteristic of a cooperative grain growth process in nanocrystalline materials. We proposed that the process can be realized by rotating the adjoining grains first and then migrating the ...

Direct observation of the atomic scale mechanism of grain rotation

open access: yes, 2023
A polycrystalline material is an aggregate of crystallites with different lattice orientations. The crystallites, i.e., grains, can undergo nearly-rigid-body rotation.

Understanding dynamics in coarse-grained models. III. Roles of rotational motion and translation-rotation coupling in coarse-grained dynamics

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2023
This paper series aims to establish a complete correspondence between fine-grained (FG) and coarse-grained (CG) dynamics by way of excess entropy scaling (introduced in Paper I). While Paper II successfully captured translational motions in CG systems using a hard sphere mapping, the absence of rotational motions in single-site CG models introduces ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Alignment of suprathermally rotating grains [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1995
It is shown, that mechanical alignment can be efficient for suprathermally rotating grains, provided that they drift with supersonic velocities. Such a drift should be widely spread due to both Alfvénic waves and ambipolar diffusion. Moreover, if suprathermal rotation is caused by grain interaction with a radiative flux, it is shown, that mechanical ...

A coupling crack blunting mechanism in nanocrystalline materials by nano-grain rotation and shear-coupled migration of grain boundaries

open access: yes, 2014
A theoretical model has been developed to investigate the effect of a special cooperative process between two main modes of stress-driven nano-grain growth, i.e., nano-grain rotation and shearcoupled migration of grain boundaries, on the emission of ...
