Mechanical Alignment of Suprathermally Rotating Grains

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1995
It is shown that mechanical alignment of grains can be efficient for grains rotating suprathermally, i.e. with kinetic energy substantially exceeding $k$ (the Boltzmann constant) over any temperature in the system. The paper studies suprathermal rotation caused by H$_{2}$ formation and the alignment that takes place due to crossover events.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

GROWING WINTER WHEAT IN VARIOUS SHORT-ROTATION CROP ROTATION MODELS ADAPTED TO THE CONDITIONS OF THE STEPPE ZONE OF UKRAINE

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis
The need for developing new models of modern crop rotations is justified by the current conditions of agricultural and economic development. Research conducted in the conditions of the Northern Steppe of Ukraine confirmed the impact of crop rotation ...

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Grain rotation by dislocation climb in a finite-size grain boundary [PDF]

open access: yesActa Materialia, 2012
Abstract We investigate the kinetics of grain rotation in a bicrystal with a tilt grain boundary by studying the relaxation of an edge dislocation wall in a discrete-dislocation approach. The boundary is infinitely extended in one direction and of finite size in the orthogonal one.

Linear Grain Growth Kinetics and Rotation in Nanocrystalline Ni [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
We report three-dimensional atomistic molecular dynamics studies of grain growth kinetics in nanocrystalline Ni. The results show the grain size increasing linearly with time, contrary to the square root of the time kinetics observed in coarse-grained structures. The average grain boundary energy per unit area decreases simultaneously with the decrease
