Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Wide Grain 3, a GRAS Protein, Interacts with DLT to Regulate Grain Size and Brassinosteroid Signaling in Rice

open access: yesRice, 2022
Background: Grain size is a direct determinant of grain weight and yield in rice; however, the genetic and molecular mechanisms determining grain size remain largely unknown.

Non‐Destructive and Mechanical Characterization of the Bond Quality of Co‐Extruded Titanium‐Aluminum Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the bond quality of co‐extruded aluminum–titanium hybrid profiles, focusing on the lateral angular co‐extrusion (LACE) process. It examines how heat treatments (HT) affect intermetallic phase formation, bond strength, and material properties.

Identification of QTLs for grain size and characterization of the beneficial alleles of grain size genes in large grain rice variety BL129

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2016
Grain size is one of the most important agronomic components of grain yield. Grain length, width and thickness are controlled by multiple quantitative trait loci (QTLs).

Snow grain-size measurements in Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2002
AbstractGrain-size is an important but not well-known characteristic of snow at the surface of Antarctica. In the past, grain-size has been reported using various methods, the reliability, reproducibility and intercomparability of which is not warranted.

Analysis of Temperature and Stress Distribution on the Bond Properties of Hybrid Tailored Formed Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid materials enable high‐performance components but are challenging to process. This study explores an inductive heating concept with spray cooling for steel–aluminum specimens in a two‐step process including friction welding and cup backward extrusion.

Grain Growth Model of Ultra-Fine Grain AZ80 Magnesium Alloy Multi-Directionally Forged During the Isothermal Heating Process

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2019
This paper takes the ultra-fine grain AZ80 magnesium alloy multi-directionally forged as the research object. We observe its heating behavior at 673 K with an optical microscope, analyze the grain size distribution, and the change of average grain size ...

Effect of grain size on the corrosion resistance of low carbon steel

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2020
Systematic works on the effect of grain size on the corrosion resistance of low carbon steel are scant. In the present work, a spectrum of grain sizes was obtained by simple heat treatment routes in a typical low-carbon steel.

Size Distribution of Grains Growing by Thermal Grain-Grain Collision [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics, 1975
The time variation in the size distribution of dqst grains is. investigated for the case where the grains are in thermal motion under the impact of ambient gas molecules and they are growing by sticking in grain-grain collisions. The growth of grains in this manner may be expected to occur in .highly dense interstellar .clouds (or protostars) and ...
