Compaction dynamics of a magnetized powder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have investigated experimentally the influence of a magnetic interaction between the grains on the compaction dynamics of a granular pile submitted to a series of taps. The granular material used to perform this study is a mixture of metallic and glass grains. The packing is immersed in an homogeneous external magnetic field.

A Study on Thermal Expansion and Thermomechanical Behavior of Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The coefficient of thermal expansion of steel–steel composite metal foam (S‐S CMF) is shown to be lower than that of bulk stainless steel while its performance under compression demonstrate excellent mechanical stability and strength at all temperatures with gradualsoftening from 400 to 600 °C.

Laser Additive Manufacturing of Oxide‐Dispersion‐Strengthened Steels: A Simulation‐Based Comparison Between Powder Bed Fusion and Direct Energy Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the size and distribution of dispersoids is essential for optimizing the performance of oxide‐dispersion‐strengthened steels. This study focuses on nanoparticle dispersion and agglomeration during laser additive manufacturing of Fe20Cr alloy reinforced with ZrO 2 nanoparticles. Utilizing multiphysics phase‐field simulations and nanoparticle

Heterosis in locally adapted sorghum genotypes and potential of hybrids for increased productivity in contrasting environments in Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Increased productivity in sorghum has been achieved in the developed world using hybrids. Despite their yield advantage, introduced hybrids have not been adopted in Ethiopia due to the lack of adaptive traits, their short plant stature and small grain ...

The impact of post-anthesis nitrogen and water availability on yield formation of winter wheat

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2012
The effects of irrigation regimes (full irrigation and water-withholding at anthesis) and post-anthesis nitrogen supplies (LN: 0, MN: 20 and HN: 40 kg N/ha) on grain yield and its components in winter wheat were studied, with attention to biomass gain by

Coercivity Improvement in Ce‐Containing (Nd,Pr)‐Fe‐B‐Based Sintered Magnets by Application of the 2‐Powder Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the magnetic properties and microstructures of 2PM‐manufactured Ce‐containing (Nd,Pr)‐Fe‐B magnets. The addition of Nd and Dy significantly enhances coercivity by 25% and 81%, respectively, attributed to core‐shell structures.
