Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Preliminary study of oxide-dispersion-strengthened B-1900 prepared by mechanical alloys [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimental oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloy based on the B-1900 composition was produced by the mechanical alloying process. Without optimization of the processing for the alloy or the alloy for the processing, recrystallization of the ...

Phase-field crystal study of grain-boundary premelting

open access: yes, 2008
We study the phenomenon of grain-boundary premelting for temperatures below the melting point in the phase-field crystal model of a pure material with hexagonal ordering in two dimensions.

Influence of Si Content and Milling Duration on the Microstructure and Mechanical–Tribological Properties of AlCoCrFeNiSi High‐Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Si‐doped AlCoCrFeNi high‐entropy alloys are synthesized by mechanical alloying to reveal the effect of Si content and milling time on phase evolution, microstructural refinement, and tribological behavior. A transition from FCC to BCC structure, significant grain refinement, and enhanced hardness and wear resistance are achieved, with the 4 at% Si ...

The relation between the geometric parameters of grinding powders grains measured by laser diffraction and light-microscopical methods

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The studies were conducted on grinding powders of black silicon carbide with F180-F60 grit produced by Volzhsky Abrasive Plant. The length, width, perimeter, area and reduced diameter of the grain area were determined by light-microscopical method, the ...

Dissection and fine-mapping of two QTL for grain size linked in a 460-kb region on chromosome 1 of rice

open access: yesRice, 2018
Background Grain size is a key determinant of grain weight and a trait having critical influence on grain quality in rice. While increasing evidences are shown for the importance of minor-effect QTL in controlling complex traits, the attention has not ...

A predictive model for the cutting force in wood machining developed using mechanical properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this study a number of work piece variations were evaluated whilst limiting the cutting conditions. Eight wood species controlled at four moisture levels were machined along and across the wood grain.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
