GW5 acts in the brassinosteroid signalling pathway to regulate grain width and weight in rice

Nature Plants, 2017
Grain size is a major determinant of grain yield in cereal crops. qSW5/GW5, which exerts the greatest effect on rice grain width and weight, was fine-mapped to a 2,263-bp/21-kb genomic region containing a 1,212-bp deletion, respectively. Here, we show that a gene encoding a calmodulin binding protein, located ∼5 kb downstream of the 1,212-bp deletion ...

The variation of grain boundary structural width with misorientation angle and boundary plane

Philosophical Magazine A, 1982
Abstract An important characteristic of a grain boundary is the depth to which its displacement field penetrates into the neighbouring single crystals. This boundary thickness, which is called the ‘structural width’ in this paper, may be studied by the use of an electron diffraction technique which is sensitive to the width of the region of large ...

Grain-Flow Lubrication of Finite-Width Slider Bearings with Rough Surfaces

Tribology Letters, 2002
In this paper, the average lubrication equation for grain flow is solved using a control volume method to analyze the performance of rough slider bearings. The effects of surface characteristics and film particle ratios under various slenderness ratios were investigated. The mean shear stress is derived in terms of shear stress factors.

Genetic mapping of a QTL controlling leaf width and grain number in rice

Euphytica, 2014
Large panicle and leaf sizes are distinctive characteristics of heavy panicle type (HPT) rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivated under deficient solar radiation and humid conditions in southwestern China. However, the genetic determinants of these traits remain unknown.

Average widths of grain boundaries in nanophase alloys synthesized by mechanical attrition

Journal of Applied Physics, 1995
Many binary ferrous alloys were synthesized by mechanical attrition in a high-energy ball mill. X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy were used to measure grain sizes, which were as small as a few nanometers in several alloys. The nanocrystalline alloys showed new features in their Mössbauer spectra, which we associated with 57Fe ...

Effect of grain width and aspect ratio on mechanical properties of Si3N4 ceramics

Journal of Materials Science, 2007
Sintering additives Y2O3 and Al2O3 with different ratios ((Y2O3/Al2O3) from 1 to 4) were used to sinter Si3N4 to high density and to induce microstructural changes suitable for raising mechanical properties of the resultant ceramics. The sintered Si3N4 ceramics have bi-modal microstructures with elongated β-Si3N4 grains uniformly distributed in a ...

Domain wall bowing and dynamic domain width in grain oriented SiFe

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1994
The dependence of the width of major domains in grain-oriented SiFe sheet on the frequency and amplitude of sinusoidal magnetization at power frequencies is calculated by minimizing the sum of domain wall and demagnetizing contributions to the mean free energy over the magnetization cycle.
