Geo-engineering using dust grains in heliotropic elliptical orbits

open access: yes, 2011
This paper examines the concept of a Saturn-like Earth ring comprised of dust grains to offset global warming. A new family of non-Keplerian periodic orbits, under the effects of solar radiation pressure and the Earth’s oblateness J2 perturbation, is ...

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

NanoSIMS-Analyse und hochauflösende Elektronenmikroskopie an präsolaren Silikaten aus roten Riesensternen und Supernovaexplosionen

open access: yes, 2009
This thesis deals with the analysis of “presolar” silicates and oxides by high resolution mass spectrometry and electron microscopy techniques. This “stardust” was identified by its extreme oxygen isotopic anomalies, which point to nucleosynthetic ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Polyphenols extraction from sorghum grains using ultrasound, microwave and green solvents

open access: yes
Sorghum with rich-tannin grain is a crop used where birds are a pest at harvest time. However, this commodity is undervalued because its high levels of polyphenol cannot be used to feed monogastric animals.

Interstellar extinction by quartz grains

open access: yes, 1968
Knacke has pointed out that quartz particles possess strong absorption bands at λ ~ 10μ. Although these features occur in the spectral region 3-10μ, where Johnson has found humps in interstellar extinction curves, by itself

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Group Grain Feeding Versus Individual Grain Feeding of Lactating Dairy Cows

open access: yes, 1962
Grain feeding is an important part of a dairy feeding program. Grain supplies energy in a concentrated form and when fed as a supplement to forage permits cows to maintain high levels of production. Also, if the forage is of low quality, additional protein and other nutrients can be supplied with the grain in a concentrate mix.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.
