Plastic‐to‐Treasure: Innovative advances in photo/electro‐catalytic upcycling technologies for commodity chemicals and fuels

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
A huge amount of plastic waste is generated yearly. With the aid of photo/electrocatalysis, they can be upcycled to clean fuels and green chemicals, leading to rehabilitation of the environment and sustainability. This review shines a light on the design of photo/electrocatalysts for effective plastic transformation into economically high‐valued ...

Overcoming Toxicity Barriers for Boosting Nisin Synthesis in Lactococcus lactis Strain via Adaptive Laboratory Evolution

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
After adaptive laboratory evolution against nisin, improved nisin production and tolerance were found in the evolved strains. To reveal the advantages of the evolved strains, a systematic comparison was made between the starting strains and the domesticated strains in terms of their microscopic morphology, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and whole ...

Inhibitory Activity of Cinnamomum cassia Essential Oil on Yersinia enterocolitica. A Challenge Test on Sous‐Vide Cooked Deer Meat

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
Cinnamomum Cassia essential oil on Deer Meat after inoculation with Yersinia Enterocolitica. ABSTRACT This study assessed the effectiveness of minimal processing techniques on red deer meat, specifically examining the preservation potential of vacuum‐sealed samples combined with Cinnamomum cassia essential oil (CCEO) to inhibit contamination by ...

Rapid Diagnostic Testing for Infective Endocarditis and Myocarditis Using Nanopore Targeted Sequencing

open access: yesiLABMED, EarlyView.
This research presents a method based on nanopore targeted sequencing (NTS) with pathogen‐specific panels for testing infective endocarditis (IE) and myocarditis. The NTS achieved a detection limit of 20 copies/test for the IE target panel and 10 copies/test for the myocarditis target panel.

The impact of a high‐fat diet on liver health in pregnant mice and their offspring: The role of the gut‐liver axis

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
The study investigated the longitudinal effects of normal and high‐fat diet, showing their differential effects on gut microbiota diversity and gut metabolites, with the latter having a significant impact on increasing liver inflammation and gut microbiota and metabolites disruption.

Production of hydroxyectoine from biogas by an engineered strain of Methylomicrobium alcaliphilum using a novel Taylor‐flow bioreactor

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 100, Issue 7, Page 1425-1433, July 2025.
Abstract BACKGROUND The production of compatible solutes, such as ectoine and hydroxyectoine, is of great interest due to their industrial and biotechnological applications. Methylomicrobium alcaliphilum was genetically engineered to replace a native gene with a heterologous one, aiming to enhance ectoine production.

Analysis of Benzoate 1,2‐Dioxygenase Identifies Shared Electron Transfer Components With DxnA1A2 in Rhizorhabdus wittichii RW1

open access: yesJournal of Basic Microbiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rhizorhabdus wittichii RW1 is known for its ability to degrade polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as dibenzo‐p‐dioxin (DD) and dibenzofuran (DF). We hypothesized that the R. wittichii RW1 benzoate 1,2‐dioxygenase shares electron transfer components with the DD/DF angular dioxygenase (DxnA1A2), similar to many aromatic hydrocarbon degrading

Ecogenomics and limnological dynamics of a new Thiocapsa species blooming in the whole water column of a karstic lake

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Purple sulfur bacteria (PSB) of the family Chromatiaceae (Gammaproteobacteria) can perform chemo‐ and photo‐lithoautotrophy (through anoxygenic photosynthesis) in anoxic layers of freshwater stratified (including meromictic) lakes. This group has been extensively studied via physiological and ecological approaches, albeit their genomics has ...
