ADULT BACTEREMIA CAUSED BY GRAM-NEGATIVE BACILLI
Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1979Because gram-negative bacteremia is increasing in frequency, it is important for physicians to suspect, carefully evaluate, and initiate early appropriate therapy. Identification of the probable source of bacteremia and a knowledge of the hospital microflora are helpful in guiding antibiotic selection. The mortality of gram-negative bacteremia tends to

Extracellular cephalosporinases produced by gram-negative bacilli
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1972Seventy-five strains of nine species of gram-negative organisms were tested for susceptibility to cephapirin, a new cephalosporin antibiotic, and 23% were found to be resistant. Two of the resistant organisms, an Escherichia coli and a Serratia marcescens, consistently produced cephalosporinase in their filtrates. The E. coli filtrates produced by 109

Resistance of Gram-Negative Bacilli to Gentamicin
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1971Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa resistant to gentamicin have appeared during three years of extensive use of this antibiotic in the Winnipeg General Hospital. During October and November of 1970, isolates of P. aeruginosa sensitive to gentamicin were recovered from 62 patients.

Endocarditis due to anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
The American Journal of Medicine, 1973Abstract A case of Bacteroides fragilis endocarditis which developed after appendicitis is discussed. Combined therapy with tetracycline and erythromycin for over 18 months, and therapy with several other agents given over a period of more than two years in all, failed to eradicate the infection.

Nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli of nosocomial interest
The American Journal of Medicine, 1970Current bacteriologic technics have made possible more specific delineation of gram-negative bacilli isolated from clinical material. As a result, a heterogeneous collection of organisms, poorly described in the past, have been grouped together operationally in the laboratory, based on their nonfermentative character.

Aerobic gram-negative bacilli: newer nosocomial pathogens
International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents, 1997Nosocomial infections are a major source of morbidity and mortality, 5–25% (according to the country) of patients admitted annually to acute-care hospitals acquire an infection that was neither present nor incubating on their admission. Gram-negative bacilli are increasing in incidence among nosocomial pathogens largely because of their ability to ...
