Granite fracture index to check suitability of granite outcrops for quarrying [PDF]
A correct knowledge of fracture patterns previous to quarrying is important for economical exploitation. This work comprises the general characterization of the discontinuities of 10 granite rock masses in NE Portugal. During the study some discontinuity characteristics such as orientation, persistence, aperture, trace length and spacing were evaluated.

Fractal patterns of fractures in granites
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1991Abstract Fractal measurements using the Cantor's dust method in a linear one-dimensional analysis mode were made on the fracture patterns revealed on two-dimensional, planar surfaces in four granites. This method allows one to conclude that: (1)|The fracture systems seen on two-dimensional surfaces in granites are consistent with the part of ...

Fracturing characteristics of two granites
Rock Mechanics Felsmechanik Mecanique des Roches, 1975Fracturing Characteristics of Two Granites Thin sections of two granites with different grain sizes and similar compositions were bonded to plexiglas slides and observed by optical microscopy as the samples were loaded in compression or tension. It was concluded that Griffith Cracks could be one of many weakness planes and were dependent on grain ...

Uranium sequestration in fracture filling materials from fractured granite aquifers
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2020The migration of the uranium (U) in high-level radioactive waste that is held in deep geological repositories via fractures in deep granite aquifers is a serious safety concern, thus, this study investigates the effect of fracture filling materials designed to mitigate these concerns.

EQUIPMENT FOR DRILLING AND FRACTURING HOT GRANITE WELLS
Proceedings of SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1979Abstract Drilling and fracturing requirements for deep, deviated geothermal hells in very hot granite creates several severe equipment problems. These problems result from the very high temperatures and problems result from the very high temperatures and extremely hard rock of the geothermal reservoir under ...

Relation of Fracture Resistance to Fabric for Granitic Rocks
pure and applied geophysics, 1992Double-torsion specimens of two granitic rocks were prepared in several directions with reference to microcracks fabric. Even for the same rock and at the same stress levels, the observed crack velocities in two granitic rocks were dependent on both the propagation direction and the opening direction.
