Fracture toughness anisotropy in granitic rocks

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, 2008
Abstract Four relatively fine grained and homogeneous granitic rocks have been studied to investigate the relationship between their microstructural properties and fracture toughness behaviour. The apparently homogeneous rocks have been found to exhibit strong anisotropy in terms of microcrack distribution and their orientation.

Hydrogeological testing to characterize a fractured granite

Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1982
A comprehensive program of in situ testing has been carried out in an iron ore mine in Stripa, Sweden, to investigate the problems of obtaining a hydrogeological characterization of a fractured granite rock mass. The field investigations consisted of: (1) the collection of fracture geometry and borehole injection test data to determine directional ...

Migration in a Single Fracture in Granitic Rock

MRS Proceedings, 1983
ABSTRACTAn in situ experiment to study migration in a single fracture in granitic rock has been performed. Both sorbing and nonsorbing tracers have been used. Results from a tracer run with a nonsorbing tracer (Uranine) are presented. The breakthrough curves have been explored with a model which takes into account hydrodynamic dispersion as well as ...

Granitic magma transport by fracture propagation

Tectonophysics, 1992
Granitic magmas commonly ascend tens of kilometres from their source terranes to upper crustal emplacement levels, or to the Earth's surface. Apart from its obvious bearing on the interpretation of the geology and geochemistry of felsic igneous rocks, the magma ascent mechanism critically affects any modelling of the metamorphic evolution of the upper ...
