Flows of cohesive granular media [PDF]
Cohesive granular media have broad applications in industries. However, our understanding of their flow behavior is still limited compared to dry granular media, although rich knowledge about their static and plastic properties has been gained.

Microscopic foundation of the μ(I) rheology for dense granular flows on inclined planes
Macroscopic and microscopic properties of dense granular layers flowing down inclined planes are obtained from Discrete-Element-Method simulations for both frictionless and frictional grains.

Micromechanics of slow granular flows [PDF]
It has been contemplated for a long time that dense granular materials flow in a stick-slip manner, and large fluctuations in the stresses are associated with it.

WHERE THE GRANULAR FLOWS BEND [PDF]
Based on IMaX/Sunrise data, we report on a previously undetected phenomenon in solar granulation. We show that in a very narrow region separating granules and intergranular lanes the spectral line width of the Fe I 5250.2 A line becomes extremely small. We offer an explanation of this observation with the help of magneto-convection simulations.

Many processes in geophysical and industrial settings involve the flow of granular materials down a slope. In order to investigate the granular dynamics, we report a series of laboratory experiments conducted by releasing grains at a steady rate from a localized source on a rough inclined plane.

The granular flow thickness and its evolution trend are key factors in analyses of the physical model experiments of avalanches. At present, the measurements of granular flow thickness mainly include sensor monitoring, mechanical measurement and manual ...

A second-order non-local model for granular flows
We determine a constitutive equation for developed three-dimensional granular flows based on a series of discrete element method simulations. In order to capture non-local phenomena, normal stress differences, and secondary flows, we extend a previously ...

Sidewall friction in confined surface flows of granular materials [PDF]
We report numerical simulations of surface granular flows confined between two sidewalls. These systems exhibit both very slow and very energetic flows. Zhu et al.
