The variation of grain size distribution in rock granular material in seepage process considering the mechanical–hydrological–chemical coupling effect: an experimental research [PDF]
As a common solid waste in geotechnical engineering, rock granular material should be properly treated and recycled. Rock granular material often coexists with water when it is used as the filling material in geotechnical engineering.

Cohesion-controlled granular material [PDF]
We present a simple method to prepare a granular material with a controlled cohesion between particles. The granular material is made of spherical glass beads coated with a polyborosiloxane polymer. This material is proved to be stable in time and nonsensitive to temperature and humidity.

Modelling the hydromechanical behaviour of expansive granular mixtures upon hydration [PDF]
Bentonite pellet-powder mixtures are candidate sealing materials in radioactive waste disposal concepts. The mixture is installed in galleries in dry state as a granular material.

Detecting vorticity in cohesive deformable granular material [PDF]
Numerical models of granular materials are useful in tribology, and can be used to predict wear and friction in contacts. DEM-like simulations are used to model particles of third-body, which are partly wear debris from rubbing bodies.

Ultrastable Shear-Jammed Granular Material
Dry granular materials, such as sand, gravel, pills, or agricultural grains, can become rigid when compressed or sheared. Under isotropic compression, the material reaches a certain jamming density and then resists further compression.

Ratcheting of Granular Materials [PDF]
We investigate the quasi-static mechanical response of soils under cyclic loading using a discrete model of randomly generated convex polygons. This response exhibits a sequence of regimes, each one characterized by a linear accumulation of plastic deformation with the number of cycles.

Cellular automaton-based simulation of bulk stacking and recovery
Stockpiling is a key issue in bulk material handling. A small-scale, quasi-two-dimensional physical model was used to investigate size segregation during stacking and gravitational reclaim of stockpiles and to compare experimental results to those ones ...

Granular Media Friction Pad for Robot Shoes—Hexagon Patterning Enhances Friction on Wet Surfaces
For maximizing friction forces of robotic legs on an unknown/unpredictable substrate, we introduced the granular media friction pad, consisting of a thin elastic membrane encasing loosely filled granular material. On coming into contact with a substrate,
