Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Thermal Properties of Athermal Granular Materials
Dry granular materials consist of a vast ensemble of discrete solid particles, interacting through complex frictional forces at the contact points. The particles are so large that these systems are believed to be completely athermal. Here, we arrest the dynamics of a flowing granular material in a steady-state flow configuration, enabling an isolated ...

Sol–Gel Derived Polymer Precursors for Stereolithography of ZrC
ZrC is a critical material target for extreme temperature conditions. This report describes a protocol for preparing ZrC ceramics via stereolithography and examines the impact of the polymer matrix on carbothermal reduction and mechanical stability of 3D printed ZrC.

MODELLING OF SILO DISCHARGE AND FILLING PROBLEMS BY THE MATERIAL POINT METHOD
The problems of flow of a granular material in the processes of silo discharge and filling are considered. Dynamic, two-dimensional problems are analyzed, both the plane and axisymmetric ones.

This study investigates thermo‐chemical processes during high‐temperature testing of two commercial MgO‐C brick grades, one containing 47.5 wt.% MgO‐C recyclate. Using ETV, DTA/TG‐MS, XRD, and SEM/EDS/EBSD, mechanisms such as carbothermal reduction of magnesia, impurity incorporation into the secondary MgO surface layer, and calcium‐rich phase ...

A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...
