Magnetic Granulometry and Super-Paramagnetism

The magnetic technique of particle size measurement based on the work of Elmore consists of a comparison of a modified Langevin curve with the observed magnetization curve for an appropriate system of ferromagnetic particles. The average magnetic moment per particle is obtained from this analysis, and the average particle size is thus determined.

Using granulometries in processing images of malarial blood

The mathematical morphology technique, granulometry, is used to create the pattern spectrum of a malarial blood slide image. From this, the red blood cell size can be evaluated, making subsequent processing scale-invariant.

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of macroscopic particle size detection during freefall using computer vision. The measurement results can be used to verify other granulometric methods, or in the industry as a simpler alternative to conventional methods. Particle sampling takes place in flight and particles may overlap.
