Microstructure, Mechanical Properties, and Antibacterial Performance of Novel Fe‐Mn‐Zn Nanocrystalline Alloys Produced by Mechanical Alloying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the development of Fe‐Mn‐Zn nanocrystalline alloys (0–9 wt% Zn) by mechanical alloying and subsequently hot pressing. Their microstructure, density, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion behavior, and antibacterial properties are systematically examined.

On colourability of polygon visibility graphs

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Combinatorics
We study the problem of colouring visibility graphs of polygons. In particular, for visibility graphs of simple polygons, we provide a polynomial algorithm for 4-colouring, and prove that the 5-colourability question is already NP-complete for them. For visibility graphs of polygons with holes, we prove that the 4-colourability question is NP-complete.

Delay Colourings of Cubic Graphs [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2013
In this note we prove the conjecture of  Wilfong, Haxell and Winkler (2001) that every bipartite multi-graph with integer edge delays admits an edge colouring with $d+1$ colours in the special case when $d = 3$.

Tribology of ZrC Coatings and Spherical Tips Acquired with Extraordinarily Stiff, Metal Atomic Force Microscopy Probes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this research, ZrC coatings are evaluated against various counterprobes at the microscale using novel super‐stiff atomic force microscopy cantilevers. The chemical composition of the coating is shown to be an important factor influencing coating hardness and Young's modulus, while surface roughness, counterprobe hardness, and surface energy are the ...

Colouring proximity graphs in the plane

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1999
AbstractGiven a set V of points in the plane and given d > 0, let G(V, d) denote the graph with vertex set V and with distinct vertices adjacent whenever the Euclidean distance between them is less than d. We are interested in colouring such ‘proximity’ graphs.

Process Parameter and Dimension‐Dependent Mn Vaporization During Laser Powder Bed Fusion of an Fe–Mi–Si–Cr‐Based Shape Memory Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The functional properties of Fe–Mn–Si–Cr‐based shape memory alloys are influenced, among other things, by their chemical composition. Here, the vaporization of Mn, the most volatile element of the alloy, is investigated. It is shown that the process parameters make noninterchangeable contributions to the vaporization and that vaporization differences ...

On edge-colouring indifference graphs

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 1995
AbstractVizing's theorem states that the chromatic index χ′(G) of a graph G is either the maximum degree Δ(G) or Δ(G) + 1. A graph G is called overfull if ¦E(G)¦> Δ(G)∥¦V(G)¦/2∥. A sufficient condition for χ′(G) = Δ(G) + 1 is that G contains an overfull subgraph H with Δ(H) = Δ(G).

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...

Mitigation of Cracks in High‐Performance Nickel‐Based Superalloys in Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam of Metals Using a Metal Matrix Composite Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐performance nickel‐based superalloys are often not processible in additive manufacturing (AM) due to hot cracking. The findings in this manuscript propose an efficient method to mitigate cracking and enhance mechanical properties of these alloys by producing a metal matrix composite, contributing to the material and process perspective of the AM ...

A Simulative Evaluation of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Structures in the Context of Elastocaloric Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simulative evaluation of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures for an elastocaloric application under compressive load is performed. For the evaluation of the structure's performance, surface/volume ratio, generated heat and invested mechanical work are taken into account and are compared to a tube as a reference specimen.
