Massive production of graphene oxide from expanded graphite [PDF]
In a deviation from the conventional Hummers method, a spontaneous expansion approach was introduced with expanded graphite as the precursors. The intercalating agent (H2SO4) was able to penetrate into the expanded graphite; this had further expanded the graphite and as a result, a foam-like intermediate was produced.

Magnetic functionalization and Catalytic behavior of magnetic nanoparticles during laser photochemical graphitization of polyimide [PDF]
We report laser-assisted photochemical graphitization of polyimides (PI) into functional magnetic nanocomposites using laser irradiation of PI in the presence of magnetite nanoparticles (MNP). PI Kapton sheets covered with MNP were photochemically treated under ambient conditions using a picosecond pulsed laser (1064nm) to obtain an electrically ...

Universal infrared conductivity of graphite [PDF]
The conductivity of graphite is analytically evaluated in the range of 0.1-1.5 eV, where the electron relaxation processes can be neglected, and the low energy excitations at the "Dirac" points are most essential. The value of conductivity calculated per one graphite layer is close to the universal conductivity of graphene.

Hydrostatic bearings excel in high‐precision applications, but their performance hinges on a continuous external supply. This study evaluates various material combinations for sliding surfaces to mitigate damage during supply failures or misalignment and to discover the most effective materials identified for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of

First-principles modeling of the interactions of iron impurities with graphene and graphite [PDF]
Results of first principles modelling of interactions graphene and graphite with iron impurities predict the colossal difference between these two carbon allotropes. Insertion of the iron atoms between the planes of graphite is much more energetically favourable than adsorption of the iron adatom at graphite or graphene surface.

Structural transformation of implanted diamond layers during high temperature annealing [PDF]
In the recent years graphitization of ion-beam induced amorphous layers became the basic tool for device fabrication in diamond. The etchable graphitic layers can be removed to form free-standing membranes into which the desired structures can be sculpted using FIB milling.

This study explores a process chain to produce dispersoid‐strengthened CuCr1Zr for applications requiring high strength and conductivity. Using gas‐atomized powder and copper‐plated alumina nanoparticles, additive manufacturing is performed via powder bed based additive manufacturing with green and red lasers, followed by heat treatment.
