A narrative approach to collaborative writing: A business process model

open access: yes, 2006
Narratives have been used in the past to enhance technical documents such as research proposals by implementing a single-user writing tool called CANS (Computer-Aided Narrative Support).

Enhancing the Ultrasonic Welding of Wood Using 3D Printed Lignin Energy Directors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 15, 13 March 2026.
Sustainable manufacturing for lightweight structures using ecofriendly materials will be key to reducing material consumption and lowering carbon footprints. Here, an approach is presented to weld wood using ultrasonic vibrations with material at the joint interface to direct energy.

Unexpected Evolutionary Divergence of Tachykinin‐Positive Neurons Innervating the Central Complex in Hexapods

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 3, March 2026.
The central complex is a group of midline‐spanning neuropils in the brain of insects with a key role in goal‐directed orientation and navigation. Immunolabeling in 25 species, ranging from bristletails to flies, shows that neurons containing peptides of the tachykinin family of neuropeptides are present in most species studied.

Relationship of Oedaleus decorus asiaticus Densities with Soil Moisture and Land Surface Temperature in Inner Mongolia, China

open access: yesAgronomy
Oedaleus decorus asiaticus (O. decorus) is a significant pest in the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, posing considerable challenges to the development of animal husbandry. To understand the key factors influencing the population distribution of O. decorus,

Livestock grazing boosts plant diversity in the Greater Serengeti–Mara Ecosystem

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 2, March 2026.
Abstract Intensifying land use is a global threat to biodiversity, and livestock grazing—occupying 26% of terrestrial land—is one of such threats. Designated protected areas are one of the key conservation strategies to halt biodiversity loss, but their effectiveness is debated, in part because of data shortage at relevant spatial scales (>1 ha).

Rapid ideal habitat selection in a homogeneous environment

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Studies of density‐dependent habitat selection typically assess choices between two or more distinctly different habitat opportunities. Although such studies can clearly document habitat choice, they cannot unambiguously differentiate the effects of density from underlying differences in habitat and their associated cues for choosing some ...

Performance of Agronomic Crop Varieties in Alaska 1978 –2002 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
There is no such thing as the perfect variety for Alaska. Some varieties are adapted to a wide range of climatic and geographic locations, while others are more specific in their adaptation.

High‐speed sand‐shoveling nesting behavior in the Saharan silver ant

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Nesting in deserts presents major challenges due to extreme heat and unstable sandy soils. The Saharan silver ant (Cataglyphis bombycina) is known for its rapid running that helps avoid heat during foraging. However, how silver ants manage to construct nests in such fine and unstable sand is not well understood.

Total herbivore exclusion alters plant species dominance and trait expression in endangered grassy woodlands

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Herbivores are important drivers of plant community composition and dominance in grassy ecosystems, yet few studies have attempted to understand how different types of herbivores impact plant dominance and function. This study examined the biomass of dominant grass species and other plant functional groups after 3 years of nested herbivore ...

Grasshoppers confirm mild winter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
If we use grasshoppers as a gauge of winter severity then the winter of 2001-2002 was certainly an insect-friendly winter. I noted in the December 2001 Integrated Crop Management newsletter that a few differential grasshoppers had survived around Ames ...
