World’s Best Practice Locust and Grasshopper Management: Accurate Forecasting and Early Intervention Treatments Using Reduced Chemical Pesticide

open access: yesAgronomy
World’s Best Practice management of locusts and grasshoppers requires accurate forecasting that helps determine where and when surveys are preferentially conducted so that infestations can be found quickly as part of ensuring early intervention ...

Substituting fish meal with grasshopper meal in the diet of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The effect of inclusion of grasshopper meal on the growth, feed conversion ratio and survival of Clarias gariepinus fingerlings of mean weight 9.71g was investigated. The results show that the best growth and food utilization indexes were recorded in the

Semi-flexible Additive Manufacturing Materials for Modularization Purposes - A modular assembly proposal for a foam edge-based spatial framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper introduces a series of design and fabrication tests directed towards the use of bendable 3D printing materials in order to simplify a foam bubble-based geometry as a frame structure for modular assembly.

Triply‐Twinned Metamaterials: Unraveling the Mechanics and Failure Pathways Through High‐Resolution XCT

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Triply‐twinned architected lattices transform deformation from bending to stretching of struts, delivering up to threefold increases in stiffness and strength across polymeric and metallic systems. High‐resolution synchrotron XCT and image‐based simulations reveal how meta‐grain architecture, defects, and AM build orientation govern failure pathways ...

Collision‐Resilient Winged Drones Enabled by Tensegrity Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Based on structures of birds such as the woodpeck, this article presents the collision‐resilient aerial robot, SWIFT. SWIFT leverages tensegrity structures in the fuselage and wings which allow it to undergo large deformations in a crash, without sustaining damage. Experiments show that SWIFT can reduce impact forces by 70% over conventional structures.

Using Generic Summarization to Improve Music Information Retrieval Tasks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In order to satisfy processing time constraints, many MIR tasks process only a segment of the whole music signal. This practice may lead to decreasing performance, since the most important information for the tasks may not be in those processed segments.

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

Age and Huddling as Determinants of Metabolic Rate in Grasshopper Mice (Onychomys leucogaster) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The metabolic rates of grasshopper mice (Onychomys leucogaster) were determined every third day from birth to adulthood. Metabolic rates were quantitated by measuring oxygen consumption in an open circuit system.

On Deciding Local Theory Extensions via E-matching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Satisfiability Modulo Theories (SMT) solvers incorporate decision procedures for theories of data types that commonly occur in software. This makes them important tools for automating verification problems.

3D‐Printing Aided Rapid Prototyping of Pretensioned Tensegrity Structures for Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Printing, injection molding, and assembly (PMA) is a method for rapid prototyping mesoscale, topologically complex, and tensioned tensegrity structures. In combination with PMA method, two mold design strategies: modular mold and compact channel layout, enable efficiency and scalability for tensegrity fabrication.
