First Report of \u3ci\u3eAllonemobius Griseus\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3ePsinidia Fenestralis\u3c/i\u3e in Ohio (Orthoptera: Gryllidae and Acrididae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Occurrences of Allonemobius griseus and Psinidia fenestralis in Ohio are pub- lished for the first time. Apparent restriction of these species to the sand deposits of northwestern Ohio, their localized distribution in scattered, non-contiguous blow- outs,

Optimal Battery‐Based Adaptive Reconfiguration Technique for a Partially Shaded Photovoltaic Array

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
OBAR eradicates the current mismatch in two steps: OBAR implements the AR technique by activating the switching circuit 1 to minimize the current mismatch between the rows. If the current mismatch still persists, switching circuit 2 selects the battery of suitable capacity and connects across the rows and inject the required compensation current.

Detection experiments with humans implicate visual predation as a driver of colour polymorphism dynamics in pygmy grasshoppers

open access: yesBMC Ecology, 2013
BackgroundAnimal colour patterns offer good model systems for studies of biodiversity and evolution of local adaptations. An increasingly popular approach to study the role of selection for camouflage for evolutionary trajectories of animal colour ...

Insect‐Derived Bioactives for Glycemic Control and Gut Health: A Review

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Insect‐derived bioactive compounds (e.g., peptides, polysaccharides) effectively regulate blood glucose through dual mechanisms: directly inhibiting carbohydrate‐digesting enzymes and glucose transporters, and indirectly modulating gut microbiota to enhance intestinal barrier integrity.

Tracking the evolution of sex chromosome systems in Melanoplinae grasshoppers through chromosomal mapping of repetitive DNA sequences

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2013
BackgroundThe accumulation of repetitive DNA during sex chromosome differentiation is a common feature of many eukaryotes and becomes more evident after recombination has been restricted or abolished.

Development of a Grasshopper‐Leg‐Inspired Back‐Type Exoskeleton for the Reduction of Muscle Activation During Stoop Activities

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Farmers frequently suffer from musculoskeletal disorders, particularly lower back pain (LBP), mainly due to occupational ergonomic factors such as repetitive stooping and lifting. This study proposes using an exoskeleton to reduce LBP risk by providing external torque to the hip joints.
