Signal enhancement in X-ray Talbot interferometry with a pair of concave and convex parabolic phase gratings

open access: yesApplied Physics Express
X-ray Talbot and Talbot–Lau interferometers consisting of transmission gratings are widely used for X-ray phase imaging, which depicts soft materials.

Building Scalable Silicon Microring Resonator‐Based Neuromorphic Photonic Circuits Using Post‐Fabrication Processing with Photochromic Material

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
One of the high‐impact research goals in neuromorphic photonics is to build scalable photonic artificial intelligence computing at high energy efficiency. This perspective paper discusses microring resonator (MRR)‐based large‐scale photonic neural networks, variations of MRR resonance wavelength from fabrication, and post‐fabrication processing with ...

Selective Color Appearance of Liquid‐Crystal‐Aided Laser‐Induced Periodic Surface Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Self‐assembled nano trenches on transparent electrodes are produced by irradiating femtosecond laser, and then combined with liquid crystal, showing brilliant selective color, which is electronically switchable. The nano trenches diffract light, and those totally internally reflected light propagates in the liquid crystal cell.

3D Printed Optics Achieves Broadband Structured Light

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The arbitrary creation of structured light often requires complex design and fabrication steps and is largely limited to single wavelength. By leveraging off the toolkit for digital holograms, how complex amplitude modulation can be implemented as 3D printed optics in a manner that is broadband is shown, for the creation of multiwavelength forms ...

Improved Laser Performance of Carbon‐Bridged Oligo(p‐phenylenevinylene)s Through σ‐π Conjugation with Silyl Groups

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Shorter blue‐emitting carbon‐bridged oligo(p‐phenylenevinylene)s (COPVm, m = 1,2) encounter challenges with photostability and high lasing thresholds. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of σ‐π conjugation to improve these properties, through functionalization of COPV2 with terminal silyl group (COPV2–Si1 and COPV2–Si2).
