A method is reported for time- and space-resolved nonintrusive velocimetry of high-speed gas flows by measurement of the Doppler shift of light scattered from a laser-induced thermal grating. The principle is demonstrated by use of a pulsed frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser to induce a thermal grating in NO(2) seeded into an argon flow.

Photon Avalanching Nanoparticles: The Next Generation of Upconverting Nanomaterials?
This Perspective outlines the mechanistic foundations that enable photon‐avalanche (PA) behavior in lanthanide nanomaterials and contrasts them with emerging application spaces and forward‐looking design strategies. By bridging threshold engineering, energy‐transfer dynamics, and materials engineering, we provide a coherent roadmap for advancing the ...

Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...

Double grating formation in anisotropic photorefractive crystals [PDF]
Double gratings form in anisotropic photorefractive crystals when two plane waves intersecting inside the crystal have both extraordinary and ordinary wave components.

Advanced modelling of a moderate-resolution holographic spectrograph
In the present article we consider an accurate modeling of spectrograph with cascade of volume-phase holographic gratings. The proposed optical scheme allows to detect spectra in an extended wavelength range without gaps providing relatively high ...

Rapid γ/neutron discrimination through PSD is achieved in liquid droplet containing nanostructured polymeric scintillator where a TTA‐active dye is dissolved. The inclusion of a properly selected and dosed sensitizer metalated porphyrin enhances discrimination sensitivity and speed by doubling the density of annihilating triplets and increasing the ...

Patterned photo-alignment and surface topography for chiral liquid crystal superstructures with unique electro-optic properties [PDF]
The combination of long-pitch and short-pitch chiral liquid crystals (CLCs) with patterned surface anchoring or surface topography is investigated with the aim to develop new electro-optic components.

Charge transport in 2D tin perovskite FETs is shown to be governed by dielectric interface behavior. Polar polymer dielectrics induce dipolar disorder that localizes carriers, whereas nonpolar polymers suppress trapping and enable superior charge transport, ensuring stable and reliable transistor operation. ABSTRACT Understanding the role of interfaces

Slow light with flat or offset band edges in multi-mode fiber with two gratings
We consider mode coupling in multimode optical fibers using either two Bragg gratings or a Bragg grating and a long-period grating. We show that the magnitude of the band edge curvature can be controlled leading to a flat, quartic band-edge or to two ...
