Miniature Reflection-Type Optical Displacement Sensor Incorporating a Projected Beam

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2015
We embody a miniature reflection-type optical displacement sensor tapping into a projected beam that features high structural tolerance. A code scale with periodic patterns spatially encrypts the projected beam, which is established by imaging a ...

Sky‐Directional Radiative Cooling Meta‐Films for Daylighting Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A geometry‐mediated microprism meta‐film enables transparent, sky‐directional radiative cooling for daylighting windows. By decoupling control of visible transmittance from mid‐infrared emissivity, ground‐emitted heat absorption is suppressed while skyward heat dissipation is enhanced.

Low-Loss Singlemode PECVD Silicon Nitride Photonic Wire Waveguides for 532–900 nm Wavelength Window Fabricated Within a CMOS Pilot Line

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
PECVD silicon nitride photonic wire waveguides have been fabricated in a CMOS pilot line. Both clad and unclad single mode wire waveguides were measured at λ = 532, 780, and 900 nm, respectively.

Complete Mode Structure Analysis of Tilted Bragg Grating Refractometers in Planar Waveguides Toward Absolute Index Measurement

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2011
Tilted Bragg grating refractometers are ideal devices for sensing applications. They work by diffracting light from a confined core mode into a series of well-defined cladding modes that are sensitive to the refractive index of an adjacent fluid.

Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Next-Value Prediction of Beam Waists From Mixed Pitch Grating Using Simplified Transformer Model

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
In this study, a simplified transformer model is used to predict the beam waist of 1,092 nm light coupled out from SiN-based mixed pitch gratings at various heights. The beam waists data at various heights above the grating is first compiled.
