This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Excitation of Surface Plasmons Using Tilted Planar-Waveguide Bragg Gratings
We present a planar-integrated optical surface plasmon refractometer. The fabricated device operates by grating-matched coupling between a core waveguide mode and a set of hybrid plasmon-dielectric modes of a much wider integrated structure.

The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Polarization-Insensitive Concentric Circular Grating Filters Featuring a Couple of Resonant Peaks
We demonstrate here guided mode resonance (GMR) concentric circular grating filters (CCGFs) on an HfO2-on-silicon platform. The fabricated devices are realized with a membrane structure by completely removing the silicon substrate beneath the HfO2 device

An All‐Optical Driven Bio‐Photovoltaic Interface for Active Control of Live Cells
Bio‐photovoltaic Interface (BIO‐PV‐I) for live cell manipulation is presented. BIO‐PV‐I can be activated non‐invasively and remotely to control the spatial motility, adhesion, and morphology of cells adhering to it. BIO‐PV‐I uses a patterned light‐induced electric potential in iron‐doped lithium niobate crystals whose light‐driven and reversible nature,

Narrow Linewidth Distributed Bragg Reflectors Based on InGaN/GaN Laser
A variety of emerging technologies, such as visible light communication systems, require narrow linewidths and easy-to-integrate light sources. Such a requirement could be potentially fulfilled with the distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers, which are

Non-steady-state extremely asymmetrical scattering of waves in periodic gratings [PDF]
Extremely asymmetrical scattering (EAS) is a highly resonant type of Bragg scattering with a strong resonant increase of the scattered wave amplitude inside and outside the grating.

Laser interference lithography with highly accurate interferometric alignment [PDF]
Three dimensional photonic crystals, e.g. for obtaining the so-called woodpile structure, can, among others, be fabricated by vertical stacking of multiple gratings. One of the requirements for obtaining a full photonic bandgap in such a photonic crystal

In this strategy, a conductive nano‐probe is employed to induce nanoscale phase transitions and map the nanoscale conductivity and trap density of GST films. By utilizing the contrasting properties of phase‐change states, nano‐resonators are fabricated that exhibit plasmonic conduction and dramatically different transport characteristics.
