Catatony in Graves' disease

open access: yesEuropean Psychiatry, 1998
SummaryWe report a 27-year-old female patient with prior history of Graves' disease and relapsing episodes of tachycardia, hyperpyrexia, muscular rigidity and coma. With the subsequent manifestation of an acute schizophreniform psychotic disorder unresponsive to neuroleptics, the primary syndrome was re-classified as febrile catatony.

Factitious Graves' Disease Due to Biotin Immunoassay Interference-A Case and Review of the Literature.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2016
CONTEXT Biotin (vitamin B7) is an essential co-factor for four carboxylases involved in fatty acid metabolism, leucine degradation, and gluconeogenesis. The recommended daily intake (RDI) of biotin is approximately 30 μg per day. Low-moderate dose biotin

Impact of Fiber Orientation in Electrospun PLA Scaffolds on Fluid Dynamics in a Custom Microfluidic Device

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber orientation in electrospun scaffolds affects permeability and fluid dynamics in microfluidic devices. Combining experimental data with computational fluid dynamic simulations, we show that aligned fibers enhance flow uniformity, reduce pressure and shear stress variability.

Long-Term Antithyroid Drug Therapy in Smoldering or Fluctuating-Type Graves’ Hyperthyroidism with Potassium Iodide [PDF]

open access: yesEndocrinology and Metabolism
Graves’ hyperthyroidism is characterized by stimulation of the thyroid gland by thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibodies (TRAbs). Antithyroid drug (ATD) continuation is recommended as long as the thyroid gland is stimulated. Goiter size, thyroidal
