Gray matter volume in relation to cardio-vascular stiffness

Journal of the Neurological Sciences, 2014
Hemodynamic disturbances are associated with aging as well as the chronic process of left ventricular and arterial stiffening. This process can influence gray matter volume and thereby contribute to brain atrophy. We performed a comprehensive assessment of left ventricular and arterial function as well as central hemodynamics.

Abnormal gray and white matter volume in delusional infestation

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 2013
Little is known about the neural basis of delusional infestation (DI), the delusional belief to be infested with pathogens. Case series and the response to anti-dopaminergic medication indicate disruptions in dopaminergic neurotransmission in the striatum (caudate, putamen), but did not allow for population-based inference.

Decreased regional cortical gray matter volume in schizophrenia

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1994
The authors hypothesized that cortical gray matter volume reduction in schizophrenia is greatest in the heteromodal association cortex. This area comprises a highly integrated, reciprocally interconnected system that coordinates higher order cortical functions.Total brain and regional gray matter volumes were calculated in 46 schizophrenic patients and

Changes in Gray Matter Volume in Patients with Bipolar Disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 2005
Several lines of evidence suggest the presence of neurofunctional abnormalities in patients with bipolar disorder. These functional abnormalities may stem from structural pathology in these or connected brain regions. Previous studies have generally used a region of interest (ROI) approach to study morphologic changes in bipolar disorder with ...

Amygdalar Gray Matter Volume and Social Relating in Schizophrenia

Neuropsychobiology, 2016
Background: Poor social relating is a prominent feature of schizophrenia. The amygdala has been suggested as an important node in social brain networks. Methods: By using structural magnetic resonance imaging, this study examined, for the first time, the relationship between ...

Widespread Cerebral Gray Matter Volume Deficits in Schizophrenia

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1992
Magnetic resonance imaging was used to investigate whether the structural brain differences commonly observed in patients with schizophrenia as compared with normal control subjects are specific to gray or white matter, and furthermore whether such abnormalities are localizable to circumscribed cortical regions. Accordingly, 22 patients meeting DSM-III-

Abnormal gray matter and white matter volume in ‘Internet gaming addicts’

Addictive Behaviors, 2015
Internet gaming addiction (IGA) is usually defined as the inability of an individual to control his/her use of the Internet with serious negative consequences. It is becoming a prevalent mental health concern around the world. To understand whether Internet gaming addiction contributes to cerebral structural changes, the present study examined the ...

Gray matter volume modifications in migraine

Neurology, 2018
To explore cross-sectional and longitudinal gray matter (GM) volume changes in patients with migraine and their association with patients' clinical characteristics and disease activity.Brain T2-weighted and 3-dimensional T1-weighted scans were acquired from 73 episodic migraineurs and 46 age- and sex-matched nonmigraine controls at baseline.

Longitudinal gray-matter volume change in the default-mode network: utility of volume standardized with global gray-matter volume for Alzheimer’s disease: a preliminary study

Radiological Physics and Technology, 2014
Our aim was to show whether sensitivity for detecting volume changes in regional gray matter in default mode network (DMN) at converted [from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer's disease (from MCI to AD)] phase was improved by use of a standardized volume with global gray-matter volume.
