Tree size and herbivory determine below-canopy grass quality and species composition in savannahs [PDF]
Large single-standing trees are rapidly declining in savannahs, ecosystems supporting a high diversity of large herbivorous mammals. Savannah trees are important as they support both a unique flora and fauna.

Distribution and use of grasslands in the Czech Republic and biodiversity of invertebrates [PDF]
In the Czech Republic the major focus of organic farming lies in permanent grasslands management. Animal production is mostly focused on non-milk pasture beef-raising on almost the whole farm area. By contrast conventional farms do not grass sufficiently,

Characterization of Pd/Y multilayers with B4C barrier layers using GIXR and x-ray standing wave enhanced HAXPES [PDF]
Pd/Y multilayers are high reflectance mirrors designed to work in the 7.5-11 nm wavelength range. Samples, prepared by magnetron sputtering, are deposited with or without B4C barrier layers located at the interfaces of Pd and Y layers to reduce ...

GRAZING INTENSITY AND SOIL NITROGEN ACCUMULATION
The balance between the litter and animal excreta pathways was varied by imposing a range of sheep grazing intensities on a dryland ryegrass-white clover pasture for 3 years. In contrast to laxly grazed treatments, hard grazed treatments lost soil carbon and nitrogen.

Profitability of Moderate Intensive Grazing of Dairy Cows in the Northeast
Empirical analysis of the profitability of moderate grazing are presented based on sample dairy farms in Pennsylvania and New York. Net income per cow was higher for dairy farms that employed moderate intensive grazing than for dairy farms that employed extensive grazing. Income appeared to be adequate for family living expenses, but moderate intensive

The Doppler Spectra of Medium Grazing Angle Sea Clutter; Part 1: Characterisation [PDF]
This paper is concerned with the characterisation of Doppler spectra from high range resolution X-band radar sea clutter observed from an airborne platform over the range of grazing angles, 15° to 45°.

Adoption of soil organic carbon-enhancing practices: A case of two watershed sites in Ethiopia. [PDF]
This study aimed at identifying the factors that determine the decision to adopt and the intensity of adoption of soil organic carbon (SOC)-enhancing practices using two watershed sites in Ethiopia: Yiser (Amhara region) and Azugashube (Southern ...
