A comparison of two rotational stocking strategies on the foraging behaviour and herbage intake by grazing sheep

open access: yesAnimal, 2020
An understanding of the processes involved in grazing behaviour is a prerequisite for the design of efficient grassland management systems. The purpose of managing the grazing process is to identify sward structures that can maximize animal forage daily ...

Effects of time-controlled grazing on runoff and sediment loss [PDF]

open access: yesSoil Research, 2009
The time-controlled rotational grazing (TC grazing) has become popular in Australia and elsewhere in the world to provide graziers and ranchers with improved productivity over traditional practices. However, this grazing system, which involves short periods of intensive grazing, has raised concerns about sustainability and environmental impacts on ...

Chemical State Detection and Charge Transfer in Complex Oxide Heterostructures via In Situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ Auger Electron Spectroscopy resolves oxidation states with high fidelity during the pulsed laser deposition of multivalent perovskite manganate and vanadate heterostructures. The chemical‐state signature is carried by the valence‐electron population of the transition‐metal cation, read out through the relative intensities of Auger fine ...

Electrode and Microstructure Dependence of Oxygen Diffusion in Ferroelectric Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Significant nanoscale oxygen diffusion coefficient variations are measured in ferroelectric hafnium zirconium oxide films with grain boundaries and electrode interfaces exhibiting values 104 times larger than the grain cores. Overall coefficients are 10X larger for films prepared with metal nitride electrodes compared to refractory metals. New insights

Estrutura da vegetação e comportamento ingestivo de novilhos em pastagem natural do Rio Grande do Sul Vegetation structure and ingestive behavior of steers in natural pasture in the state of Rio Grande do Sul

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2009
O experimento foi realizado em uma pastagem natural com o objetivo de avaliar a influência do nível de oferta de forragem sobre a estrutura do pasto e o comportamento ingestivo de bovinos.

Demonstrating Vibrational Current Generation With a Self‐Assembled Bioelectret

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vacuum‐deposited films of the plant‐derived molecule, Baicalein, form a self‐assembled bioelectret exhibiting spontaneous orientation polarization and a giant surface potential. The films induce alternating current during the vibration of a movable electrode without charging treatments. Hydrocarbon protection enhances the air stability of the Baicalein

Efficacy of prescribed grazing depends on timing intensity and frequency [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, 2009
Summary 1. Exotic weeds and woody plants have invaded many grasslands, and prescribed grazing is one management technique used to combat these plants. Prescribed grazing entails introducing livestock such as sheep or goats that eat unwanted plants. It sometimes has desirable effects, but inconsistencies among study results discourage widespread use ...

Non‐Monotonic Changes in the Thermal Conductivity of Conjugated Polymer Films with Increasing Levels of Chemical Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thermal conductivity changes non‐monotonically as regioregular (RR) and regiorandom (RRa) P3HT films are doped with F4TCNQ as a function of the extent to which P3HT is doped: an increase in thermal conductivity is observed upon lightly doping P3HT compared to the undoped film, followed by a decrease in the heavily doped regime. ABSTRACT The performance
